Nitrous Kits - Pros and Cons?

OK, ofcourse I'd rather have a supercharger or turbo but unfortunately thats not in my budget at the moment. I've always kinda been against the spray kinda like its juicing (aka Mark McQuire/Sammy Sosa) but the more I think about my driving habits it kinda makes more sense to throw a bottle in the trunk.

I really don't need continuous 500 hp at the wheels (of course I want it) cause most of my driving is normal daily driving around and cruising. And yes, I get on the car but not really in a way where I am punching it out through all the gears.

But, in those rare instances that I do need that power (and I need not state what instances those are...hehe) I'd like to have an extra 100-150 horsepower available at the flip of a switch.

Just curious as to the pros and cons of the stuff. (LOL...will my balls shrink?)

Also, how do you use it. I dont want a system that is on when I do punch it (ie a switch under the accelerator pedal). Is it on as long as a button is pushed. Do you use it thru all gears? Let off between shifts?

Anyone with it or has had it could you guys let me know.

Also, do I need to do a tune, how much boost is safe etc. (I have a corsa cat back and cai already)

Pros...
It's addictive.
It's the cheapest way to make horsepower.

Cons...
It's addictive

A good modern nitrous kit will be setup on a TPS window switch... you set the RPM window that you want nitrous to spray (Usually 3000-6000 RPM or a few hundred RPM under the rev limiter, you don't want it spraying if you hit rev limiter) and you set the TPS portion up so that it only activates at full throttle. Then once both conditions are met (Full throttle and minimum RPM) it will trip the relay which connects power to the solenoids and spray nitrous/fuel. Your arming switch will be setup to provide power to the window switch, When the arming switch is turned off then the window switch will not have power and nothing nitrous related will be powered or able to be triggered.

There is no switch on the accelerator, a good window switch has a TPS function built in and all it takes is a wire run to one of the wires on the throttlebody connector.

Yes, not so much to adjust the fuel but you need to retard the timing or you'll be detonating.

Depends on the size of the shot.. 100 shot you can usually get away with not pulling any timing out of the stock conservative timing table.

negative. There are ways to several ways to retard timing without messing with the factory tune. such as the harris speed works interface, the lingenfelter lrc-1 which is a timing retard and a two step. Both will not interfere with the tune, and both will adjust timing accordingly.

with anything above a 100 shot, I would pull timing. If you plan on running a baby 75 shot, You don't have to.

then you get into the dry vs wet shot debate.

then distribution

then various safety equipment.

It's a very simple concept, but can easily be over-engineered. But it's fun, and it's cheap.

Just don't be a giant wuss and take your nitrous kit off for no reason, like sk360 does.
