I bought mine from phastek performance about 4 years ago. I bought only the shifter plate .You could do that back then. I had the original shifter at the time. But decided to go with the original COPO Drake shifter & I absolutely would not change it.

Unfortunately we did not receive enough pre-orders to get the group buy to work out. We did take into account the amount of interest that this thread produced so you 5th Gen owners we're not ignored. We are currently working on a replacement shifter handle/grip for the 5th Gen so please stay tuned. We'll drop some additional information on the Camaro5 forum as it becomes available.

Jason,
MUCH APPRECIATED!!!
As an owner of a Gen5 automatic, I thank you. I personally would like to see a Tee handle design instead of the pistol grip (it's a Chevy & not a Mopar), maybe a modified Tee handle...like the B&M Hammer.

That is actually not true from the emails and phone conversations that was received.

Their was at least one or two companies that was willing to buy at least 50 units to help the Camaro 5 customers, and they were given the excuse that the tooling was no longer available.
The companies were willing to spend almost $20000.00 for Hurst to make them. That's the excuse that was given from Tom Tamblyn on Nov 22 2017. We have a copy of the email to prove it.

I actually bought one last month from a distributor that had one kicking around. Looks nice. Too bad that it's discontinued.

In a way, Hurst is correct about not having the tooling at their plant. The company is no longer independently owned & now is a subsidiary of Driven Performance. So Hurst may in fact still be an American Icon, but the parent company outsources the shifters to China to be manufactured....that's also the main reason why Hurst no longer has the replacement parts for most of their shifters. Oh, how I wish that Vic Edelbrock, Jr was still in charge.

On the bright side, another company could do exactly the same as Hurst....design a shifter & outsource it to China. In fact, I think that I saw a Chinese knockoff at the local flea market, the logo was misspelled...it said "Hurts" instead of "Hurst"~lol!

The REAL reason for not remanufacturing the shifter is...Profit Margin. Not by Hurst, but by Driven Performance...had it been an order for 500 units instead~most definitely YES, but to reproduce 50 units is just not cost effective for them overall. No doubt, that Hurst thought that DP would approve the pre-order or they would not of offered it.

In fact, I think that it REALLY STINKS that most of high performance companies like Hurst, B&M, MSD, Lakewood, ie, are having to merge in order to survive.

It’s situations like this that made me do mods while the 5th gen was still ‘hot’. I bought my car in ‘14 and was very concerned this might happen (having lived through previous gen 1 scarcity). I decided to mod a couple of months after I bought the car, and I’m glad I did.

Business is business and profits are king - Supply and demand. If I were a 6th gen owner and planned to mod, I’d be stocking up or, start modding while the 6th gen is still viable.

FWIW, I wanted a ‘spare’ unit from Hurst. I, however, do understand the business reasons since they were ‘bought out’. Sucks, but the way it is. 5th gen is not as relevant - which is why I stocked up on a few hard to get items...
