daily driven class

hello everyone, I'm racing in a daily driven class at a upcoming race in march. the rules are no drag radials, dot street tires only. my plans are to remove all unnecessary weight, getting a 2 step launch controller and upgrading my current tires, I'm running factory size nitto invos and I'm thinking about going from a 275 to a 305, maybe stick with the invo. anyone have a good daily tire? I know I will have wheel spin either way. manual trans with 618 rwhp

305/35/20 Mickey Thompson Street Comps. Decent street tire good in dry and rain. On the strip with a long burn out sticks pretty good. My power is 667 whp and I run them at 22 lbs at the track.

Is a launch controler allowed?
I got 1.7 60fts out of regular Nitto 555s

yes a launch controller is allowed, the rules are the car has to be on dot street radials, no drag radials, other then that any power added/ modification is allowed. I managed a 11.8@ 121 my first trip to the track in the car. I have only had it for a little over a month. So I was and am still getting use to driving it. But my biggest issue was getting off the line, I was getting 2.0 60fts. I know that’s where my issue is. But I also know with a little more time and practice my 60 will get better. Plus with some better tires.

burn out in 2nd...with that power and tire I'd start at 20 psi and work down if need be...what is the power adder? you will prob be in the 3k rpm launch range with street tires..possibly lower....

I'm running a mag 2.3 supercharger, lethal racing night fury cam, long tube headers, ported throttle body, zr1 fuel pump, duel monster clutch's, bmr 1.25 lowering kit, bmr bushings, bmr control arms and trailing arms, hurst short throw shifter, running 6-7 psi of boost, car dynode in at 618 rwhp and 580 torque. I bought the car build already, so I'm sure there are a bunch of things I'm missing. I made one trip to the track since I got the car and I was running late so I was hot lapping the car, but my best I left at 3000 rpm and was ridding the clutch. but you know my best pass was my last pass so I didn't get to really try anything different.

I would change classes so you can run a drag radial with that king of power.

well the next class up is a radial class but the first person entered is a twin turbo stang running 8's in street trim on a radial so my chances are a good bit better in this class lol

Your are lucky that a 2 step is allowed. I race in a bracket series in the "Street Class" and a 2 step is illegal. I am the only stick shift car in the class and probably swapping to a 4L80E at some point this season. Only launch control in street class that is legal is one that came on the car.

Drive around the water box, and back up into it. Your front tires will pick up water if you drive straight through it, and you will bring water up to the line, which will cause excessive wheel spin.

Try a few different air pressures in the rear tires when you practice to see what gets you a better 60'. Also add some air to the front tires, which will give you less rolling resistance on them. 5lbs shy of max allowed pressure (45psi) has worked well for me.

My car had Invo's on it when I bought it. I have the 555 G2's on for the street, and they hook better than the Invo's did.

Relax, stiff arms and legs respond slower than loose ones. When your not racing, walk around some, meet other people, and have fun.

try not to hot lap...clutch's hate heat...and focus on holding the gas pedal rock steady as you ride it out..don't be afraid to drop the psi..I was 18 on street radials...

what rpm are you shiftin at? at least 6750 but that cam goes to 7k..

I shift at 6800-6900, I have brought it to 7000 I didn't feel any power lose bringing it that high, but I also never saw the dyno sheet for my car so idk where I start to lose power. last trip to the track I was running my tires at 20psi but like I said before, I didn't get to really adjust much because I was still learning the car and didn't want to change to much up because I wasn't sure what was working or not because if me getting adjusted to the car

if you do end up dropping psi mark the tire/rim to check on any slip...and adjust the psi after a run...when it cools it will drop some but the burnout usually brings it back up before the run...

it is an endless ballet and in your case with street tires ultimately(IMHO) will limit your runs...how fast are you shiftin cause I see the rear wanting to come out on you every shift...does the tune turn off the nannies or are you?

my last trip I did runs with the nannies both on and off, with the nannies on I would spin and lose power because of the t/c and when I had them off I would spin like crazy, but that was also my first trip in this car, and I had only had the car for a week lol. now I have been having it for a couple months I'm getting a better feel for the car. but my shifting is actually a very strong point of my driving. I would get a little wheel spin when shifting but nothing crazy like the ass end wanting to come around. it has on the street not the track lol
