Tire Pressure for autocross
I was wondering If I can get some advise on tire pressure for autocross. Pressure but not tires I do not yet have spare wheels for different tire setup.
Sunday 2/18 first autocross for 2018. It might be important to know I am not very good at autox. Last autocross was mid summer in Texas. Not knowing any better I just filled tires to 35 in am and left it there. Afternoon was well above 100 degrees and it did not occur to me to re check tires. Several spinouts later....... At least for Sunday temps will be consistent all day. There is chance of rain in forecast Current weather forecast for Sun 2/18 9am: 50 degrees/Rain 55%/Humidity 73% 10am: 52 degrees/Rain 43%/Humidity 70% 12am: 57 degrees/Rain 51%/Humidity 61% 2pm: 62 degrees/Rain 47%/Humidity 55% 4pm: 64 degrees/Rain 34%/Humidity 53% Tires: Continental ExtremeContact DW Front: 275/40/20 Rear: 315/35/20 Are there additional pressure considerations if I have a few extra HP(590)? -Chris |

Having autocrossed on the DW's, I would start with 35 frt and 32 rear pressure and see what you get. Autocross does not increase pressure very much due to the short time span of the run. See if that helps.
And have fun!! Jealous for sure as my car has been in hibernation since mid November.

Before answering we'd need to know what you've done for suspension and drivetrain mods. I.E. Springs/bars/alignment and what diff you have.
Do you know how to "read" the tire after a run?

I was at the track on day and my friend who is a professional driver (For Ford...) kept taking pressure out of my tires... I can't remember what we stopped at but I remember that the air I let out from the tire was hot enough to cause me lots of pain.
Also if you are in the sun, remember that the tires on side the sun is on will be hotter and have a higher pressure. If possible park your car so the tires get even heat. |

I have to remove a few pounds after every auto-x pass. as the tires heat up, the air pressure increases 3-4 lbs.
Find a starting point - front may be different than rear - and try to keep them consistent. too much pressure in the front and you'll push in a corner. |
