I believe stock is 275/40/20 and front is 245/45/2. Can you tell me what the biggest tire I can put on a stock wheel? I was wondering also it is that a 285/35/20 would rub or its the rim width that is the issue.

Can i get away with a 295/35/20 on the rear and a 285/35/20 on front? I really like the stock wheel looks
I don't think you'd even get away with 285 35 20 on the rears. much less 295s anywhere with 8" or 9" wide wheels use these ase a guide. these are pretty much "textbook" recommended sizes and im 99.9% sure they all work http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showpo...70&postcount=1 outside of that, there are other few sizes (mainly 1 size wider or 1 size narrower) that members here have run successfully. you'd get away with stretching a tire more than squeezing and not to mention the car would be really loose and sidewall wear would be ridiculous. I got lucky and was able to get the wide tire i run on mine The 1LE are an example of having a non recommended tire size for wheel width but it works. The 1LE cars come with 285 35 20 on the rears and they're stretched to the limit on the 11" factory wheels. Next time you see a stock 1LE in person, check out the rear wheels and you'll see what i mean by stretched on the wheel. The ZL1 cars come with a better fitting (and looking) 305 35 20 my guess is that the main reasons chevrolet went with 285s rather than 305s on the rears of 1LE cars: 1. 285s are slightly cheaper (and trust me, GM WOULD cut a corner like this even if it was only $1.00 per tire because that = A LOT of money saved on their end) 2. the 1LE benefits more from the slightly smaller diameter 285 (combined with the 3.91 gears) than the 305s in order to make up for the loss in acceleration (when compared to the regular SS had they not produced it with the 3.91s and this specific tire) because of the longer gearing the MM6 TR6060 come with required to achieive GM's goal to make the 3-4 shift closer so that the car wouldnt fall on its face at the track. by making 1st 2nd and 3rd gear longer, they essentially took acceleration performance away from the car so they restored that acceleration with the 3.91 gears and smaller diameter/circumference tires

Wheel Size
Hey Leo like your tire and wheel setup, also like color of car. What offset are your wheels, I have ZL1 replica's 20/10+23 front and 20/11+43 rear, just want to make sure they will work with 275/40/20 front and 315/35/20 rear with out rubbing issues, car also has a 1" drop.
Thanks in advance for your reply. Mike |
