A8 has seen its share of issues in Corvette too.

Kind of, only the '19 SS is replacing the A8 with A10.

Yep, thank you for confirming my comments.. While the A8 is neck wrenching response out of the gate the A6 takes:

Tune, converter, gears, blah blah blah... LOL.. just to wake it up.

And yes you are correct they never changed the A6 in the GEN5.. I figure it most likely because they brought the A8 in with the LT1 as a package for the GEN6.(same in the Corvette when the C7 came out) Which its kind of sad bud.. GM not only held back the GEN5 in the transmission over it's life span but motors as well. they never upgraded the L99 HP which I always hated they didn't put in a true LS3 426HP with Auto.

By the way that's not a good thing. I would have like to have seen the GEN5 SS auto get some factory driveline refresh..

PS: Saw the pic of your SS in the post

Here is a picture of mine that I bought new in 2011

I will echo some of this. I would rate the A6 as an "average" grade auto. With a tune that was put together by someone competent, the A6 becomes "pretty good."

The key word on this being tune. Without the tune, the trans is nothing special.

Nice Camaro......the A6 was a bit of a dog stock . Not terrible. Just a simple tune made it way better. I only did gears and converter in the last while. I drove and raced the car with a very mild trans tune for years. It would chirp third on the right surface. Wonder how the the 5th gen would do with an A8 .

The new Buick Regal TourX station wagon launched with the A8 and it was blasted by magazines for the poor transmission performance and GM said it will get the A9 next year.

A trans can be reliable, still not a performer. The A6 is yes reliable, but quite sluggish in stock form. A good tune brings out what it should have been.

=average trans in stock form.

Funny, All the major Car mags and shows talk about how the Corvette and Camaro SS with the 8 speed auto and LT1 are a blast to drive and major improvement over years past... Not sure what your point is..last time I checked this was a Camaro site.

A comment made by a major publication about the A8 transmission, which was currently being discussed, is certainly germane to the topic. If you can’t keep up, I can try using crayons and pictures for you.

Does the Buick use the same transmission as the Camaro?

Both use the 8L90. Next year the Buick moves to the 9T50 co-developed with Ford.

Performance means nothing without durability. Thats why the A10 showed up. Sure isnt because the A8 is the future.
