I just wish someone can tell me if I can turn my SS into a 1000HP car using only GM/Chevy performance parts including the LSX454R Engine.

With enough money, anything is possible. Put the LSX454R in your car with a 200-300 shot of nitrous and it will be a 1000hp car. However, you're going to need to mount coils/ignition system as you'll see there are no coils on it. You're going to have to swap EFI onto it or make the carburetor work in your car. Carburetors are a step backwards in technology in my opinion if you are putting one into a modern car that is anything other than a race car. I'd put an LSX454R in my 69 camaro but not my 2010.

Would I use the LSX454R? No, I would not. For the amount of money it costs, a stronger engine can be built. Also, it has 13.1:1 compression. You're going to need a lot of octane to keep it from pinging (detonation). Unless you know a place that sells C16 at the pump at God knows what per gallon, pump gas won't work.

My camaro can make as much ~1200whp and is docile enough to be a daily driver except it gets horrible gas mileage and uses E85. There is only one station around me that sells it. I think I can get 110 miles or so out of tank of gas.

Get a hold of some engine shops and get some quotes. You can have an LS 454 built but it won't be all with GM/Chevy parts. The rods, crank, pistons, cam, bearings and other parts will all be aftermarket. The block, heads, covers, and intake could all be GM/Chevy.

So say I buy the engine from the Chevy website. And I take my car and the engine to my local dealership and can they install it for me and recommend everything necessary

Yes but I'd be surprised if the dealership would do it. I would not trust most dealerships with that kind of work. A speed shop is a better choice. There are many good ones out there.

It doesn't have to be in your area. You can ship your car anywhere you want. There are many, many reputable shops around the US.

I am not familiar with shops in your area but I'd ask in the California forum on here and on LS1tech. You can also Google around and see. Go to some shows, etc and ask around. The bad thing about the internet is when people are happy, they say nothing. If something goes wrong, they spread it like wildfire. If you find a local shop, stop by for a visit before you make any arrangements to take your car there just to see what it is like.

If you want to PM, I'll give you the names of specific shops I would suggest you contact.

Just thought I would chime in here. Like many people I would love to build my car up like you guys here with the big builds. Realistically not going to happen. Yeah 1000hp sounds cool. Hell anything over 500 is very cool. for that matter our car bone stock are pretty damn awesome, that's why we love them! As I understand it once you get above a certain Hp/Trq, you start to need other parts. Right now my 2013 2SS 6spd has borla attack exhaust, CAI, And soon LTH with a good dyno tune. After that maybe gears and a cam? can stock components handle a supercharger? Can I get over 500rwhp with mostly stock components?
Just throwing this out there.

I'll place a disclaimer here before I comment.... You can break parts at stock power.... you can break parts with bolt ons, and you can most assuredly break parts with power adders.... The flip side is there are lots of guys running around with completely stock bottom ends and heads, clutches transmissions and differentials making well over 500 RWHP....

The vast majority of it is in the tune, and then in driving styles...

Now.... A close friend has a SBE (stock bottom end) 2SS making 458 RWHP, 548 RWT, and has run 10.16. He has headers and a cam..... He is now up to 489 RWHP.... No power adders.... Turbo 400, Rear gears if memory serves.... and he has lightened the car a bit....




There are guys running just a bolt on blower kit from Maggie making 460-520 or more...

There are folks making a bit more with KB and Whipple kits.... in the mid 500's and up to mid 600's

I'm sure there are more but these are the general numbers I remember...


Then you get into Turbo kits....My personal favorite...


There are turbo kit cars making well north of 600 RWHP with nothing but a bolt on turbo kit and a tune... There are others making north of 700 and 800 and 900 and a few have been over 1K. I wouldn't push it to that level, but it has been done....

Pump - fore performance (not innovations) triple pump
Injectors - FIC 127s
Meth - no
etc - flex fuel sensor/e85, -10 feed, dual fed, aeromotive regulator, return style

Exhaust:
Headers - on3 turbo kit
Cats or No Cats - its a hood dump
Cat back - also, hood dump

looking for info

i am looking at putting on a 2.9 whipple long tube headers and a cold air intake on my convertible. just a weekend toy it is a manual
it is in need of a clutch


my question is how much hp and tq will this combination make so that i can purchase a clutch that will work ?

Way to resurrect a dead thread. It all depends on what your goals are, personally I went with a Monster triple because I knew I would want more power eventually and it has served me well so far.

There's plenty of good info on this forum if you spend some time reading.
