Just picked up my Z!
Hey guys
Just picked up a 2015 Z with 700 miles! Have a lot of questions: What are first and easy mods? LS7 concerns. Is the whole rant about issues with the motor real? Should i proactively fix even though this will just be a cruiser car? Any thoughts will be appreciated Thx |

Congrats! First 'mod' is usually pulling the exhaust fuse for some sound.
LS7 concerns were very real in the early going. The fix for Later Z06 + Z/28 engines is debated, but here on this forum amongst owners, I believe the number of engine failures has been <5..? In short, I wouldnt worry. Motor City? There is a few of us located here in MI! |

Sorry one other question. Did you guys change tires out for street use? If so what type and does it make a difference?

Tremendous change in ride and noise quality from Trofeo. Safer too with cold temps

Im over by Milford. Hopefully arrange a GTG this summer. Maybe around Camaro superfest, or one of the bakers shows. |

Tire mod first.
Then add in some Carbon Fiber to the interior.

I wouldn't worry about that LS7. The valve issue was found to be on LS7s built from 2008-11. They had a machining issue with the heads that would cause the valve guides to wear out prematurely. The later LS7s shouldn't have the same issue.

I have RE-11s in 325 on all four corners. Changed the car night and day as a cruiser. My wife even was ok driving it with these new tires.

Continental Extreme Contact Sports, 325/30/19's all the way around. Excellent street and rain handling, exceptional track performance. Not Pirelli track performance, but still great. Ride quality improved significantly as well. I will buy these tires as long as they produce them.
As for other mods, like the others have said pull the fuse. Get a tow hook for the front (you never know, cheap insurance to make sure nothing underneath gets damaged by tow truck if you need to be pulled out of something), skip shift eliminator etc. If you are planning on working on it yourself, and don't have a lift capable of getting the car on to, buy the 67 inch race ramps and the xtender ramps so that you can get the front up in the air without scraping. |
