Help-Engine overheat on monitor.

Spent yesterday in Camaro trying to solve "engine overheated, stop engine, reduced engine power" monitor messages and basically shut the car down. Had car checked and was running perfect when driven and no other indication of any problem. Is this a computer problem causing this to occur. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Need more info.
Run a scan and see what codes are present.
Compare actual engine coolant temp and idle air temp.
Scan should help point you in right direction, but if actual engine coolant temp is high than you can expect that you have an actual overheat condition.
If actual engine coolant temp is normal, then you probably have a bad sensor or wiring problem.
Tools I use to diagnose problems like this, scan tool, multi meter, and infrared thermometer.

I assume you checked the coolant level?
If a car is running that hot you would barely be able to touch the top hose, I agree, probably an intermittent sensor, much easier to find if the damn things would just go permanently faulty.

The coolant temp sensor is on the drivers side of the engine right in front of the #1 spark plug and exhaust manifold. Super easy to pull. I have seen a few people say that it went bad. Just a thought

Take the radiator cap off and put a thermometer in there to read the temperature. Just be careful as you should not remove the radiator cap when its hot and under pressure. Has anything been done to the cooling system recently? If so you may have air trapped in there, very hard to purge these v8s.
