What HP can the stock diff take with...

So i have 2010 ss A6. It is putting down just over500 to the wheels. I have trailing arm,toe rods and cradle bushings. I am ordering a east coast supercharger, so I figure i will be in the mid 600's after that. Now I have a drive shaft shop 1 piece aluminum shaft sitting in a box. If I put that on and got set of outlaw axles, would the diff be safe, or should I just replace the diff with say, a zl1 diff?

What tire, and are you going to drag race the car? Those two answers will have everything to do with how the diff will hold up.

axles, and driveshaft bolts will break and sheer before the diff goes most of the time. eliminated those weak points will just put more strain on the diff.

when I was at 500whp I was sheering DS bolts every weekend, but breaking those was cheaper than diffs....

Maybe drag it..but minimally. I have continental extreme contacts. 305 rears. 275 fronts.

So, street tires and very rare drag racing - I wouldn't be too concerned. When you add a sticky tire and start cracking off some intense 60' times then you'll be into axle breaking territory. They usually fail before the diff.

So do you think it would be wise to put on the drive shaft shop drive shaft....or would that ve inviting problems?

Well I'm pretty sure my diff is on borrowed time. Not %100 yet. I do a lot of spirited driving and have drag raced a bit. I haven't sheared or broke anything yet...

I don't see anything wrong with adding the 1 piece driveshaft - it's nice to get rid of a potential failure point, and the 1 piece has less play in it than the factory piece. Probably not as noticeable on an auto car.

It won't save your rear end though. Best way to protect the rear end is to NOT upgrade the axles. Keep them as your weak link, as they are a WHOLE lot less expensive than an upgraded rear.

Wise words.

I decided to do a 1 piece drive shaft and outlaw axles last month. Had the car out of the shop for 14 hours, one small tire roast and BANG. Breakage will always make it's way to the weakest point.

They are putting in a new set of 3.91's, Truetrack, JRE caps and LPW cover as we speak, hopefully that holds.
