Stop it already.

Obsessing over the practicality of one generation vs the next is grasping at straws. It's like arguing over which Kardashian is smartest.

All Chevrolet did was go from a car that is almost completely impractical (Gen 5) to one that is, in fact, completely impractical (Gen 6).

And the consolation for losing the almost imperceptible amount of practicality the Gen 5 had is a massive improvement in vehicle dynamics in the Gen 6.

How would
This work for a gen7? 5th gen looks, size and dimensions with gen6 performance and refinement or better.
Could everyone be happy then?

Actually, all out performance is not what these cars are about. Think back to the origins of the Camaro and the Mustang before it. They were cars that appealed to a new market segment of buyers that were looking for a sports car look with a somewhat sporty performance flavor at an affordable price.

They had to be practical enough to have room for 4 passengers and a small trunk, but we all know the backseats were rather confined. However, in a pinch you could fit two average build adults in the back and drive around. On the 6th gen, that is not possible. It lost a lot of interior room and trunk space.

If the Camaro eventually turns into a sports car, buyers who are looking for the kind of car the Camaro use to represent will look elswhere. Unfortunately, that elsewhere will be the competitor make, the Ford Mustang.

I don't think that would be a good approach for the long term success of keeping the Camaro alive for a profitable 7th gen and possibly an 8th gen after that. Also, siphoning potential sales from the Corvette is not good for GM's bottom line either.
Many people are taking for granted the new mid engine Corvette and its acceptance in the Corvette world , talking to Corvette owners i know ,they are excited about it, but feel that its not a Corvette . I can't say how wide spread that feeling is but time will tell. But what i do know is when GM goes Mid engine it will be the end of Corvette as we know it and the beginning of a new Corvette . With that said it makes sense that Camaro follows , maybe not as far as mid engine but to be the replacement for the Corvette up to C7, the 7th gen Camaro could go two seater rear wheel drive and not be in competition with Corvette as in the past. The Camaro has a great future and the 6th gen is only the start in the right direction, no matter how many of them they sell. This is a great time to be part of the Camaro history , if not the best time .

I'd rather not have gen 6 interworkings... Every now and then I'll go over to c6 and see all the new things going wrong with people's brand new cars... Yikes.

My first 5th gen was a nightmare. Go back and read some of the early threads when the fifth Gen started out. I know from having all of the gen5 cars except for the 1 LE and spending a lot of seat time in my father in law's gen6 SS, I would rather have the Gen6 underpinnings along with the interior if it was roomier. I would be more than happy with the Gen5 looks on the outside especially the 1le or ZL1.

I like both cars when it comes right down to it, and I honestly dont think anyone can go wrong with either unless they really do need more room.

The 68 is smaller and lighter. It's close, but it's shorter and not as tall. They are the same dimension as the 69, the 69 just has the flatter wheel arches and a little pointier of a nose. I might be biased, but I think the 68 is the best year of the 1st Gen.

It wasn't my car in Elverson, must have a doppelganger

I like both, but prefer the looks of my 5th Gen. I almost pulled the trigger on an '18 2SS 1LE but they didn't want to work with me on price. I will agree that the rear seat area on the 6th Gen is way worse though, and I actually use the rear seats on my '13. I sometimes take my daughter and one of her friends to places with my wife and they fit well back there. All of them are under 5'5" however.

I have been sideways in my 6gen on the track and mine never went off. I have a buddy that had a ZL1 at Texas World Speedway a few years ago had his go off when he slid in the infield coming in to hot from the long straight. Ruined his weekend, he has a stingray now. hehe

I agree, except for the best year part..LOL. Here's a picture of my 69 and 2012 SS (the day I brought it home) side by side. The 5th gen dwarfs the first gens from every angle, especially the rear..

Not every angle. What about that tire width?
