Yeah, I asked the main build coordinator what else would he would have like to have done but GM would not allow it....his answer, "Absolutely nothing. To go 1/2 second faster, and break into the 7's you would spend $100K and 90% of that is roll cage, halo, and safety stuff." His point is that very few people would see that $100K as money well spent when half of the guys who buy the car will never race it and the other half most likely could not justify $100K for .5 seconds. I totally agree. |

Had a rare opportunity to tour the COPO build center in Oxford Mi earlier this summer.
Just see a bunch of them stashed off to the side on racks ready for delivery makes you just drool all over. |

I did happen to ask our tour guide if the parts they use to build a COPO are available for purchase if a regular customer wanted to 'build' their own COPO, and he assured me that they were all listed in their catalog.

Yep, the GM stuff on the COPO is all available through the GM performance catalog. I think it may not be stamped COPO but then again that doesn’t make it any slower but it does probably make it cheaper

It would realistically take around 70-80k to get in the mix of the factory stock shootout times of 8.0 and maybe 7s, we’re looking at around 10k this winter for the roll cage and chassis upgrade, we’ve already done all the small nessecary stuff, also you’d need a new motor and trans, those are the big ticket items, the car can run a 580hp rated motor that the cars come with or a 590hp motor. The 590 can run different ratio rockers and a different supercharger pully (btw if you didn’t know the 580 can run a smaller pully on the supercharger than it came with, you should look into changing it). Any performance engine builder will build a better blueprinted motor than the one that comes from GM. We’ve been running on an 8.55 dial in FS/AA but the car can go faster as is, it can take more timing than we’re giving it and we could launch it harder too, just hasn’t been a reason to push it since the cage is only good to 8.50.

Speaking of which, there's some nice info on the E-Copo on the NHRA site.
