Another Member response " Yah idiot, why you asking questions in a camaro forum about your camaro? Search for it on google or something"

This is my most hated pet peeve of any forum. Some people don't know how to use search. Not to mention you didn't even welcome them to the group. Now, Bob the new guy has no interest in coming back to the forum and it turns out Bob owns some crazy business that gives away free vinyl decals and crap and you guys pushed him away.

Ok! What are some of your pet peeves?

I got a warning for telling someone to search for their answer to a question they asked. As a 57 year old I have a problem with people being to damn lazy to answer their own question. That is how you freaking learn people . Google is actually really amazing . Freaking snowflakes . At least on the Gixxer forum I can tell them to grow a pair when they get upset .

you are making the mistake of assuming people know how to search, or what a search is actually doing. Me, oh I got that as I am in the IT business... me telling one of my parents to search.. I may as well ask them to design a rocket. They don't use Google, never heard of it and scared of the computer.

Don't assume that people are tech savvy. Yes, searching may get them the answer, if they knew how to use it.

If people don't know what Google is or what a Search function is, then they need to pick up one of these

Been browsing a lot of non usual forums for me today and I've discovered there are some fairly saltily amusing folks here. Of course, that ain't unusual for anything internet related.

What I find odd, now that hrpiii has brought up the IT world into this strangely amusing discussion, is the argument that folks don't know how to search. For crap sake, they took the time to ask the question here, on the phone, or in person, and if they aren't the aforementioned googlephobes, may have even punched in their question there. The problem isn't with the actual search function, the problem is interpreting the results and deciphering which clicky thing to use to get your answer. It may take reading several articles to find the information needed to answer your query. That just takes to much time for some folks. I've also found, in the last 10 years of operating the IT help desk I'm currently employed at, that when some folks ask for "help", that isn't really what they want. They want someone else to do whatever it is they can't/won't/don't want to do, for them. The real art with helping others is deciding when to teach them how to fish and when to just slap them with a fish.

One of my pet peeves is folks that ask for help, wait ten seconds, then cast aspersions on the community for not providing an answer immediately.

Another is any prius, minivan/crossover/SUV/subaru in my way and I don't care which lane they are pokin' along in. It's a good thing I'm not Bruce.

This isn't really fair though, as a lot of folks don't use computers in their line of work....

I'm not IT savvy, yet here I am... I can search for a lot of things, but I always have others I often work with asking how to do this or that.... Sometimes I have to ask others how to do something... or I try to google it, or as a last resort I try to find a youtube video on it....

I help others when I'm able.... I don't ask others to build a BOP stack, when as a subsea engineer, this is second nature to me.... Others are required to use it, but certainly not to maintain it, thats my job....

If there is an issue with the stack, they call me, and while I could explain how to fix the issue, it's most often (always) easier for me to fix it, explain in rudimentary terms what was wrong and move on, allowing them to continue using it....

We all have our strengths and weaknesses....

As someone that has done IT since the days of mainframes, I have never had a problem explaining something to a (l)user. Though sometimes you have to wonder about the mental ability of (mostly) salespeople or marketing people, it has provided job security for myself and many other IT people. So I'm more amused by stupid questions than mad.

Though I don't actually use this with (l)users, I have always wanted to be more like the BOFH...I just can't bring myself to quicklime one. So, I provide this tool to other IT types whenever I get the chance. It's a great way to come up with reason for something not happening...

Then, of course, there's this...
