CEL after headers install and tune

About 2 weeks ago, I installed a set of 1-7/8" kooks headers with hi flow cats on my 2013 LS3. I took it in to get tuned the very next day so that I wouldn't get a check engine light due to the O2 sensor relocation. While I was out driving today, the check engine light came on and my code reader told me that it was an "O2 Sensor Delayed Response - Lean to Rich (Bank 2 Sensor 1)". The only other mod that the car has is a CAI intake.

I'm pretty irritated about this since this is exactly why I got it tuned in the first place. Will it hurt the engine to drive the car the way it is now until I can take it back to the tuner? Also, can anyone help me explain to the tuner what needs to be changed in the cars computer to account for the change in O2 sensor position?

Bank 2 Sensor 1 is the passenger side pre-cat O2 sensor.

That one isn't disabled with the tune.

how many miles are on your car and did you replace the o2 sensors when you installed your headers?

first link on a search for that gets me a P015d and the causes point toward a bad sensor or bad wiring. i'd start with a new sensor, clear the code, and see if it comes back.

Just over 25,000 miles on the car. I reused the original O2 sensors and just added the wiring extenders.

Make sure the sensor is still plugged in or you didn't burn a wire on the header or switch sensor to other header see if you get code for that side that will let you know if its bad sensor

Get a new sensor. Clear the code. If the light comes on again, go back to the tuner and tell him to fix the tune. I'd bet it's the sensor. Not uncommon for them to fail.

My guess is it's in the tune. If it was the front o2s it would run like crap. The rears should have been disabled in the tune. Normally the front and rears communicate. The rears being further downstream causes the need to disable. Thus o2 sensor delay code. Make sure you haven't melted the Extensions.

I checked all the wiring and extensions to make sure that nothing is rubbing on the header or getting burnt. Everything looks fine and tied up right where I left it. I'll try to take it back into the shop on Monday and see what they say.

You should be fine to drive it as long as you aren't too hard on it until then. My guess is the tuner forgot to turn something off. Good luck and let us know what they did so others can see what you ran into.

Clear code , switch the O2 sensors from right to left . If the code moves with the O2 , you have a bad O2 sensor. Fast easy and free way to find your problem.

Many don't realize you have to disable the code; "delayed response" also....., from appearing with delayed response as the distance is farther down the exhaust of the o2 used ;and just disable the rears though they are there still heating to help torch un burnt gas. They are disabling the reading back and forth between the two sets that adjusts the AFR between the twos different readings in between the two sets to make it more like the previous one 0-2 cats ran on cars.... we have two sets for even better emissions and gas mileage adjustments to the AFR and well its what we got.....

I took it back to the tuner and he disabled the "delayed response" code so hopefully now that will take care of the issue. I also had him adjust the radiator fan control since the fans would run 100% of the time after the tune. Thanks everyone for all your input.
