I agree with the OP, it would be nice if down by the odometer there was a small indicator. You guys jumping all over him about this is silly. There are several things this car (and others) have that may seem totally unnecessary. How about a clock? Can't you just look at your watch? Hell, some of you guys could probably look at the sun or moon. How about the digital speedo AND the analog one. Do we really need two? Can't you boys just feel how fast you're going or tell by the sound of the wind? How many of you change your oil by the oil change indicator? I guess I am an idiot too.

I don't wear a watch and if I did and I had my coat on it would be a pain to read it when I could just read the clock on the dash.

The reason for the digital speedo is pretty obvious if you have ever driven one of these things... the style of the speedo makes the numbers so close together it's hard to tell when you're breaking the speed limit. The addition of the digital readout is to answer that.

The lack of the gear indicator is fine. Shifting should be second nature and you should not need a light to tell you what gear you're in any more than you need a mirror to be able to see to get food into your mouth.

The car doesn't have a shift light, does it?

I loved my V6 '85 S10, because it did NOT come with one...

After awhile, you'll just be able to tell by feel. I know the rough position of when I'm in 3rd or 5th. Takes some time, but other than that, take a glance at the tach.

It still works even when you have ABBA cranked

If you need a gear indicator you need more practice driving a stick or you should be driving an auto.

I'm going to side with the OP... Also lots of hostile people on this thread... I wouldn't mind having a gear indicator... There's been a number of times I've accidentally put it in 5th instead of reverse. I'm slow to back out; so I figure it out before I end up in some grocery stores front window... but it would get put to use. The gears are a lot closer together than other manuals I've driven.

It's not a requirement but it would be a niceity.

It's a preference thing. I can feel what gear I am in because of muscle memory. People that drive 4 gear manuals could have this issue. However, the camaro has an indicator that tells you to go from 1st to 4th gear when going from a complete stop to almost 20mph. I would hope that eventually the OP would catch on to the diagram and utilize the 5th and 6th gear. Why put unnecessary stress on an engine driving... "30 miles down the highway at 70mph." Don't do it to save the environment, do it to save the camaro for 5-10 years from now.

Man don't worry about it in time and and some mistakes you and the car will become one. Then shifting and gear position will come with out a thought.

Gear Indicator

Good thing the Camaro does not come with a ten speed!
