I Wanted a LT1 F-body when I was in high school, but the old man said no V8. So I bought a red 6-speed, t-top '99 Z28 as a college graduation present to myself. Followed by a '98 WS6 and two '02 Z28's before I ventured off into Corvette world. After several 'Vettes and a 350Z thrown in for good measure, we had a baby and needed a back seat and knew that the 5th Gen was next.
Ever since the 2006 concept debuted we both fell in love with it. Then the ZL1 was unveiled in 2011 in our backyard at the Chicago Auto Show. Had to have one someday, and that someday arrived thanks to our little one (and depreciation). Picked up our ZL1 with 3,500 miles on it this past Spring.

I really liked the Gen5 when it came out. So, when it came time to get a new car, I decided to get a Camaro.
I really don't like anything made out there currently except for maybe the Challenger Scatpack or Hellcat. For me, they are way too expensive and a little too big. Also, I wish they were a little less slab sided and more curvy like the originals. But, for the price they want for a new Hellcat, you could probably get a decently restored original version. |

After driving nothing but trucks for 25 years I told my wife I was tired of trucks and wanted a car. Originally wanted a late 2000 Corvette because I wanted something that was sporty with power as well. She ruled out the Corvette so I said what about a Camaro then and she agreed. Took me about 5 months looking off and on but once I saw my car online I knew that was the one. She's in the car business and it had just got traded in at one of her companies BMW dealerships. I told her to call the manager and make the deal. They even delivered it to my house. Came home from work one night and it was just sitting there in the driveway. Best night ever!

TL;DR Camaros run in the family, I fell in love with the 2006 concept when I was little, was looking into buying a newer truck, ended up buying a Camaro last minute, loved the car ever since
Ever since I was little, I loved Camaros. I was 5 years old when the 2006 concept came out. Immediately, I fell in love with the fifth gen. I had Camaro folders and notebooks I would take to school. I even built a Camaro model when I was little that still sits on my desk. My aunt owned two Camaros and my father owned three. One of my aunt’s Camaros was sold to my father. The person who owned that Camaro before my aunt, was actually my mother’s aunt. There is a picture of my mom, when she was just a few years old, sitting in the Camaro that my father would eventually own. Weird huh? So I guess Camaros just sorta run in the family. For some reason though, my younger brother is into Mustangs instead of Camaros. ![]() Anyways, last year, I started looking for more reliable vehicles since I knew my 2001 Sport Trac wasn’t going to handle commuting an hour to UGA three days a week very well. I was looking at a lot of Colorados and newer Sport Tracs and didn’t even consider a Camaro because I figured it was out of my price range. I had done an immense amount of research for months on the right kind of vehicle and was actually about to head up to South Carolina to check out the “perfect truck”. My dad and I were just eating at Arby’s before going on the long trip when he just suggests out of nowhere “I think you should get a Camaro”. So I looked for some on KBB just for the hell of it. Sure enough, the only CPO Camaro within 200 miles just happened to have everything that I wanted and was well within what I could afford. So we drove an hour to that dealership instead of the long trip to SC and a few hours later, I was the proud owner of my Camaro. My brother and friends from work were quite shocked when I picked my brother up in a Camaro rather than the truck they thought I was going to get. I’ve been enjoying the hell out of it ever since. I even let my parents drive it a little bit every now and then since me being born was the whole reason they had to get rid of the last Camaro. I plan on eventually passing this car down to my youngest brother (the one that likes Camaros not Mustangs) and want to pass down the love for Camaros to my children.(Sorry for such a long post... I just love my car )

For me, I had been driving a Grand Cherokee for the last 5 years. It is the quintessential nice car - it looks...nice. It drives....nice. And I was tired of nice. My kids are now in college, work is going well, and it was time to have some fun. I wanted to look forward to driving to work in the morning.
A child of the 80's, watching Knight Rider and being jealous of the IROC Z, and both grand-dads working for Chevy - the Camaro had a natural lead. I hated (and still do) the 4th gen. But the 5th Gen is a masterpiece. I looked at the Mustang and Challenger, but neither was quite right. I took a long, long look at the 6th Gen. I dabbled with a BMW. but kept coming back to a low mileage 5th Gen. I bought a 2012 2SS RS with 12k miles on it. Super clean. $22,000. Compared to the other options in that price range, it is an unbelievable value. |

Being a Mustang guy since I was a teenager and despising the catfish look of the Mustang I bought a 2SS convertible.
While the Camaro body lines have been out for a while with tweaks over the years, it just grew on me. The light went on! So I bought a vert and have a few bolt-ons. I’ll be trading up to ZL1 soon. |

Originally I didn’t even want a Camaro, I was actually looking at a 2016 A6/S6 (Most likely would have gotten an S6) and a 2015-2016 550i Xdrive, until I went to the dealership and saw my Camaro (At the time I never thought it’d be mine) the salesman that was helping me find the perfect 550i or S6 had both vehicles shipped from Arizona for me to take my pick between the 2, out of the corner of my eye I spotted this bright red Camaro and I was super interested in it and the salesman was perfectly fine with me checking out the Camaro because as he said “I’m catering to your needs” we sat the dealer another 2 hours trying to figure out wether or not I wanted the car although my wife was pretty annoyed that I was looking at the Camaro instead of the 550i (which she really wanted me to get) I still pondered on the Camaro for about 30 more minuets while my wife was still checking the car out and giving it a few revs...Eventually I snapped out of my thoughts about how much I wanted the Camaro when my wife said “Just get the damn car”. And that was the OFFICIAL green light for me. We arrived at the dealership at about 10:30 that morning and didn’t leave until around 4:00 that afternoon. I was super happy about getting able to drive it home until my wife got the keys from the salesman and said “I’m driving the Camaro”...I personally feel as if I made the perfect choice that day!! I love my Camaro.

My life with the Camaro started back in 1977. My dad bought a 77 Camaro Rally sport,
was supposed to be a black bandit Trans am, but it was sold before we arrived. Assh#$%s! anyway I had that one for about a year through high school. Lady pulled out in front of me and totaled. next car was a 1979 Rally sport. Nothing but problems so we returned it a few weeks later. My dad found a 1979 Z-28 that I had to share with my younger brother. I didn't like that at all, he wasn't a car person, didn't take care of it. No, he just couldn't drive. I manage to get it from him and acquired it for graduation. Took it to college and wrecked the next year, totaled. put me in the hospital for a few days, not sure what happened. next car, 1980 Camaro sport coupe, V6. yea, wasn't happy. But turned it in to a Bill Mitchell concept clone with a V6 eng. wasn't fast but sure looked cool. a few years later the engine finally went out after years of beating the heck out it (just got married at the time) Dad helped to replace the V6 with a 400, but the 400 had some issues so we found a turn key 330hp 355CI eng and dropped it in. Replaced the springs 1980 Z-28) and some other parts to keep it stable. Kept it for a few more years. traded it for a Subaru Brat ( raced it SCCA for a time, it won the Regional championships for 1988. Next Camaro didn't come along until 1991. I traded a VW GTI for a 1983 Camaro HO 5 spd. I was a used car tech at a chevy dealer at the time. A wholesale 1LE Camaro came through and I swapped parts off it. They were wholesaling it anyway, it was a mess. traded that through the dealer for a 1988 MC SS. Then I had SS's for several years after that. So, the next Camaro wouldn't come along again until 2012. Traded a Kia for a 2012 Camaro RS 1LT. This car would win multiple car shows and track events. Lusted for the 2016 when it came out and STUPIDLY traded for a 2016 Camaro RS 1lt Auto. Tracked/showed it for a year until Harvey buried it under 5 ft of water on my driveway. Now, I have another 2012 RS 2Lt 6spd manual. I had my track suspension still from my old RS and installed on this one. haven't raced it yet, too many issues dealing with my Harvey damaged home and legal issues associated with that. so that's my Camaro history and why I have a Camaro. |
