This might be a southern thing because up here seems like everyone ....at least on the net is selling MSRP. We just got our 2SS/RS Thursday!!! Our dealer bought the car from a Maine dealer....and put it on his lot....didn't mark it up at all. Didn't drive it down either....car only had 9 miles on it!!! A&T Chevy in Sellersville PA

Dealer story

I tried to order a 2SS orange Camaro from Peltier Chevrolet at msrp back in July. They said it would be $5000 over msrp (to order it). They had 2 on the lot that were ordered and not taken, $8500 over msrp each. Jerks!!
I looked and looked and someone on this forum mentioned Classic Chevrolet. I contacted them and ordered my car 8/3/09 AT MSRP. I just found out the other day (while tracking VIN #) that my vehicle was not ordered with the sunroof (although I clearly have in writing where I ordered a sunroof). Classic said it was their mistake and they are installing a power sunroof for free. My car shipped on the train 10/6/09 - and will hopefully arrive soon!
Keep looking, there are decent dealers out there.
I have heard from several dealers that no more SS's are able to be ordered till next year so GM can focus on increasing V6 production numbers. This is why the upcharge on used SS's.
Good luck!

I know a lady who worked for a local GM dealer for many years. She told me she was surprised to see how many people bought vehicles and paid sticker price and where happy. She said it was at least 1/2 of all sales if not more. She processed them so she knew what they sold for and how much profits they made.

There are people who can afford to pay what ever the dealer asks and its likely someone will come in and pay that, as long as the car remains popular.

I'll tell you again. Walk away. There is no way in Hell, that I would let anyone other than the factory chop a hole in the roof of my car. You are asking for leaks and other issues. Also, don't let them tell you it's the same guys that install them at the factory. It's not! Those "guys" are working up in Canada! It may be the same company, but I guarantee you, the "guys" that are going to take a sawzall to your roof...it will be their first time to do so! Walk away....

Keep shopping.... With the winter months approaching, the SS demand should wind down.

They typically are USED because a dealer took them right to the auction when they arrived. Thus, they are SOLD and titled, making them USED.... Some dealers made well over MSRP at the auctions....some get exported, some wind up on other Chevy lots by dealers who didn't have much allocation to start with. Or on a competing brands lot, because the car is a draw for attention. SO, the warranty clock is TICKING.

I agree on the Southern thing..... Here in Florida it seem we are the last to get allocations. As a consumer you have two choices, wait and get at MSRP or pay 5-10K over. Here in Pinellas county, with a population of a million people we have 3 Chevy dealers (I think)... Two sell at MSRP and one at 5K over .... The people that don't want to wait get theirs at the 5K over store, while the rest of us wait 4-6 months. Also it's unfortunate that these dealers aren't very open to drop shipping from other dealers.....Kinda the stuck between a rock and a hard place thing ....

Good dealer/bad dealer

I worked in a very large GM store for many years; yes, Dorothy, there are good dealers out there....and "bad" ones. It might be a trick to find a dealer you like, but just because you like them doesn't mean the next customer will (think about that for a moment!)....doesn't necessarily make them "bad" to everyone. My local dealer is just fine for me; in fact, I'd rather work with a small local dealer than some giant discount house that you end up taking a number to buy a car. And, my TPW is the week of 19 October; 2SS/RS, IOM, 6M, Sunroof, black rally stripes and 20" polished wheels. Price was right and car is on the way soon!

I literally have no patience for car salesman. Even when i was 20, i'd just walk away because i could see the b.s. coming. Not even worth talking to most of them.

I'd be Leary of that. Don't the sunroof cars come with a smooth roof and non sunroof cars with the reverse Mohawk?

My wife and I stopped in at Myrtle Beach Chevrolet last week while on vacation and they had 6 new Camaros sitting on the lot. This is the most I have personally witnessed at any dealership. All were V-8.... 2 were black, 1 was IOM, 1 was RJT, 1 was VR and the last was IBM. A salesman told us that they were for sale for 5k over MSRP. He asked if we were interested and I told him I already had one on order at MSRP. At that point he didn't seem so enthusiastic to help us. :(
