Flip flopping back and forth. Challenger ScatPack or 1le
I'm in the market to buy a dream car
I'm stuck between a 2014-15 Camaro 1le and the 2015-16 scat pack. One day I think I got it all figured out and then I find myself looking at the other car. I've had a C4 Corvette and it was a blast, but I didn't drive it a ton. I miss my 72 Chevelle and that's why I like the Scat. I've been going through this for 2 years and now I can pull the trigger. I feel mentally unstable trying to figure out. I'm driving my wife crazy. |

Over on the Challenger forum they are saying you can't see out of a Camaro LOL. Tough choice OP both very nice cars. I might have a Chally if it weren't so big and my garage so small. I can just get my SS inside of it but I'm sure the Dodge would be a no go there.
To me it comes down to what the OP likes. Test drive them both and see if you like one better than the other. I like both honestly.... |

Do you have any kids? How are you going to use the car? ...cruise/car shows? Drag strip? HPDE events?
They are very different cars. I'd take a Scat Pak over a SS 1LE (but a ZL1 over a Scat Pak)

You know you are going to mod the car. You also know there are far more options available for the camaro.
See? That wasn't hard.

I own a 15 1LE and just got rid of my 17 SRT Challenger for a 18 Grand Sport Vette. Outstanding car. The fit and finish Dodge puts into their cars is far better than Chevy. If you’re looking for a comfortable family size muscle car you can’t beat the Challenger. Great power in a straight line, outstanding exhaust from the factory and timeless looks. But they are heavy cars, and they corner that way. If you don’t plan on tracking them get either and be happy.
The 1LE will destroy the scat pack on any auto-x or road course.

Challenger good for the straight line, the 1LE for carving through them hills...
For me it would be the 1LE... the potential to upgrade and make it fast and faster is always there, on both cars really... but only one will come with much better handling than the other straight out the box. Plug and play baby... I must add, that after owning an SS with the Hotchkis Race Pack (among a few other suspension upgrades), I am a bit biased to what these cars can do and how they feel on the road. That LS3 is easily modified for great gains, and the suspension on these cars as well. |

I'm 52, 2 grandsons. Not sure if I'll get to track the car a ton, but obviously the 1le leads the road course and the scat pack the 1/4 mile.
The creature comforts of the Dodge are nice too. It's gonna be a tough decision. |

Honestly it's a very tough decision. 1LE is more of an all around performance car. It handles very well and its respectable in a straight line. Scatpack is more of a one trick car..... straight. It CAN turn but you will feel how heavy the car is and will feel it wants to understeer.
1LEs are manual only if the transmission is a deciding factor.

A buddy of mine just bought a 2016 Challenger Scat pack Shaker in all black. That car is awesome and looks great as well. Go test drive both.

Glassman, I was half-way in the 2015-2017 Scat Pack M6 camp myself due to interior space (I'm 6'2", over 250). The couple of 5th gen. Camaros I've sat in have been less than roomy, in all honesty.
I do really like the 2015+ Challenger styling. I think Dodge did a great job with the refresh they did with the headlights & LED taillights. I too have had a number of old school muscle cars over the years (almost all GM-- '69 Camaro 350/350 auto, '70 Chevelle 396 M21 SS clone, '69 442, '66 GTO, among many others)-- so I'm drawn to the retro styling of both the Challenger and the 5th Gen. Camaro. However, one specific aspect of the Camaro and the SS cars in particular that keeps bringing me back firmly into the Camaro camp is the overall reliability and potential for trouble-free miles. If you do some research on sites like U.S. News, Consumer Reports, and other "No-nonsense" type sites, the Challenger (and many Chrysler models in general) seem to repeatedly score low on the predicted and actual reliability scale as compared to GM products like the Camaro. Of course, no car is immune to user neglect, but it seems that with all maintenance schedules being similarly followed, Camaro just emerges as the more likely to last longer with fewer problems. That's my take, coming from a similar background, car-wise. Hope you can make an honest and sober decision on the car as I hope I'll be able to do soon. Cheers, Chris |
