2013 imo is the best year. I’m not a fan of the narrowed grill and change in rear headlights on the 14-15. But it’s obviously a personal decision. Look for a 2SS/RS. You should be able to find one in the $20-23k range with descent miles. The 1LE’s are all manuals do you probably don’t want one of them

I see the younger dudes do this with their trucks. They buy a bare bones plain Jane truck then dump a shitload of money into it trying to turn it into something they could have just bought in the first place. Sure it's a money thing but it bugs the shit out of me. Remember guys I'm 56 been there done that. Now I just buy what I want. Don't get me wrong I like to add stuff on my trucks but I buy a big dog truck to start with and add everything I want right away. My newest truck I just bought 3 weeks ago today. Sticker was $52,000 I got $16,500 off. Killer deal I thought. I just finished my last add on the other day and I'm done. Tonneau cover, Stainless steel steps, bed rails, stainless steel mudflaps. Exhaust tip Bedrug, Support our troops license plates, Katzkin leather seats. (I hate the factory leather, it's junk) Its just the way I want it. I did the same thing to another new Silverado 6 months ago. My wife drives that one. |

Had a 2012 45th LT. Bought the 2015 2SS RS and really never looked back. Except for that Ferrari, that is.

I've had two Duramax's in the past a 2003 and a 2006. Both were around $47,000 new. I ran the shit out of them . The new ones just cost too much and they cost too much to maintain in my book . DEF, $125 Oil changes, fuel filters ,I could go on and on.
Back when I had diesels I used them for work and put 60,000 - 80,000 miles in a year. I was a traveling Carpenter pulling a big trailer full of tools and building materials . Jobs were all over the 5 state area. I'm in Minnesota. Now I work directly for a local home builder doing some trim work and job supervisor . I only put about 25,000 miles a year only pulling a trailer a few times a year so I don't need a diesel anymore. |

If a 5.3 does the job, you picked the right truck.

This is a big deal for me too. My nephew is in the Army in Afghanistan right now, My son in law is in his tenth year in the Army and is stationed in Wisconsin now. My late father was a Marine and spent a few years in Japan back in the Korean War.
I can't get a very good picture of Black Betty in the garage. |

5.3 6 speed automatic. 4x4 in both
4x4 is required where I live in Minnesota. 2wd are worthless in the winter here. I didn't even see a 2wd truck on the lot when I was looking for the black one last month and there was over 200 trucks there |

You can find those parts for way under $5-6K used, some even brand new. 20" wheels. Too heavy, but you can find them used all over the place for a couple hundred. HID headlights. Thought about it, but rather go to brighter bulbs or LED in the halogen housings. LED tails. Don't like them. Body color roof ditch.molding. $40 3M 1080 wrap. I did this. Chrome strip grill. $10.99 chrome strip molding from Autozone. I did this, but put it inside the center of the grill than on top. Body color spoiler $99-$129 on ebay. I did this. Body color antenna $129.99 from RPI. Not yet, may never do it since I kind of like the black as a contrast to the white on my car. |

I too am passionate about the bowtie trucks. I’m really in to the 55-57s and 67-72s my self. I too have had several Chevy trucks in my life. Currently I’ve got the three in my signature as well as an ‘18 2500 double cab long bed. My Camaro is the first car I’ve ever owned. I got a 2010 because Aqua Blue Metallic is my absolute favorite color on the 5th gen cars. ( early ‘10 model year color only) don’t let those 3.27s fool you to much, with the nannies off mine will blow the tires off easily from a stand still and it will still throw you back in the seat pretty good. I’ve got some mods planned for mine and it’ll probably get 3.91s eventually but the 3.27s are still plenty fun to drive. With your budget you should be able to get a nice low mile car. Mine is loaded and had 52000 on it when I got it. I paid 18 for it. You’ll love the 5th gen I have no plans to ever get rid of mine.

All of those parts brand new is about 5-6k total. Headlight pair on average 1200, Tail light pair on average 1k, harnesses for both will run you 500 or so. Set of RS wheels and Pirelli P Neros/Zeros will run you a 1k+, Spoiler and unique RS grill are give or take 100 each, plus installation cost if you opt to have it professionally done |
