the new cobalt ss aint a car to be messen with. imo this car really deserves the ss name it got cause it can keep up with alot of v6s and even some v8s the mustang in particular.
i personly think that the cobalt ss will be faster than the v6 camaro due to its handling and its even hp/torque distribution. look at the cobalt ss cometition the only thing that comes close to it is the mazdaspeed3. others like the gti/gli, civic si, and the srt4 caliber, are not that great compared.

that cobalt SS also makes nearly as much torque as the V6 Camaro. It has a better power to weight than the V6 Camaro and I imagine it handles better too -it lapped the ring only 2 seconds slower than the Camaro SS.

oh idk my friend... There is almost 1hp/lb different with the SS cobalt having the advantage. If it can really pull a 1.0 on the skid pad the Camaro V6 has no chance and the Camaro SS would have a run for it's money...

C&D says .92 on the skid
(Ok here are the stats, straight from R&T. Here is the order of the stats: 0-60, quarter mile, skid pad, slalom, and top speed. Cobalt SS 5.5,14.0@101.8,0.92,72.4, 160 Mazdaspeed 3 6.2, 14.5@96.4, 0.87, 67.5, 155 GTI 6.3, 14.9@94, 0.89, 66.8, 130 Civic SI 6.8, 15.1@94, 0.87, 67.6, 129 ), and SRT4 0-60 in 5.9 sec, 14.4@101 Ill have to try the Cobalt SS out if the SS Camaro ends up running $31000+ Exspecailly if this car rns with the best and smokes its compitition lol |

My plans EXACTLY....In a CD ( I think it was them, they did a test of best track cars at various price points), the SS/SC BEAT THE MUSTANG on the track. It was not as fast but handled much better. And that was BEFORE the extra 55 hp and 55 ftlb of torque and the Ring tuned suspension.....

That's one of my concerns. I don't want to have a Cobalt pass me on the highway. I loved mine, but I want to feel like I'm a tier above the Cobalt SS, even with the V6. With the posted list of Nurburgring times, I'm certain that the Cobalt SS (TC) is faster than the Camaro LS since it follows the Camaro SS by only a couple seconds. This is one way that weight may be an issue.
This is not a complaint. I'm actually very happy that the Cobalt SS is going to continue to hold a place that can outrun Mustangs just like our V6s. It puts the Cobalt toward the front of the tuner crowd. Hopefully, GM sees how respectable the Cobalt has become. It really does put a lot of cars, like the Civic, to shame.

While I agree that the Cobalt is a MAJOR improvement over it's predecessor and puts GM in a new class of small car quality, I don't agree with it "putting the Civic to shame". The Civic is still the benchmark for that class. You don't get to be the benchmark unless you are doing something right All of it's competitors have to use much larger engines in attempt to keep up. (poorly I might add. The 2.4 liter Cobalt SS, 2.4 liter Corolla XRS, and 2.4 liter Lancer are no match for the 2.0 Civic Si.) I'm very pleased with the turbo Cobalt's performance and can't wait to drive one but it does confirm the fact that if you are going after Honda, you'd better come boosted or with 2 or 4 extra cylinders. |

Honda is a great company. They make some very efficient, impressive technology that no one can disrespect. They've earned a place of pride with their compact Civic and their sporty S2000. At the same time, GM is trying to reclaim its position as the top automaker, not just in terms of production with regards to Toyota, but also in terms of perceived quality. GM has outperformed Japanese automakers for years with a few cars, and finally customers are seeing that GM cars are on par or better than anything Asia can put in America's marketplace. The Civics on the road are respectable, if often classless as well depending on the tuner, but the Cobalt is certainly faster*, maybe not as unique-looking as the new Civics, but definitely made from components that are on par with the Civic. * "faster"—The Cobalt is faster per tier. In other words, the top Cobalt is faster than the top Civic. Since there is no intermediate Civic, we cannot compare intermediate cars. Base economy cars aren't particularly designed for autosports competition, but the Cobalt still boasts more horsepower, although it does not feature variable valve timing like the i-VTEC does. While base results are disputable, it is safe to say that the Cobalt and the Civic are both top notch in the compact segment.
