The dealers dont have the hardware to do the updates. Thats the problem in hick Hannibal that Ive run into.

Its gonna be past update CE before any more usb problems are addressed anyways. Im calling GM after my car is back from the dealer to have the coolant hose update done.

Agreed. GM is scared of a lot of this new fangled stuff.

GM dealers don't install the update by copying the files to a USB drive and sticking it in the car like they, as well as customers, should be able to.

A USB thumb drive installation method could solve the hardware problem.

My friggen TV had an update available that was this same method. There's no reason why GM can't just post the file(s) on a service website somewhere along with some brief instructions and warnings.

They would take this serious if indeed they are serious about the customer experience. I think the main problem is they put things in cars like this that the automotive industry as a whole doesn't understand.

Agreed. They really need some new blood in their computer/infotainment departments it seems. They need people with experience in the consumer electronics arena; or at least younger employees with this mindset. They're extrememly stuck in the old ways of going to the dealer for everything. The problem is you have gearheads who don't understand computers and electronics trying to do these things when many consumers are much more qualified than their "trained" technicians to do the updates.

My dealer couldn't find the part and was asking me for a bulletin number. Is there a bulletin number?

Print out and bring in the pdf I attached a few pages back. I think it's "09-08-44-013A". It might be outdated, since I got update CD and they're up to CE now.

Feeling the pain. My Camaro has SW - CC and the radio always switches to USB no matter what I leave it on. I read this entire thread before I took my girl in for a service and explained to the service manager the need for a PDIM upgrade from CC to either CD or CE. Got the "deer in the headlights" look and stock answer that all software updates will be downloaded when they plug my VIN in the system. Sure enough, got her back later that day and still had SW - CC. They might have done a radio upgrade because it did not switch over to USB immediately, but later that day - same old problem. Before I left the service dept. I told the SM to expect a call from me. I think I noticed a smirk.

In this day and time and what Chevrolet has gone through it seems strange to me that they have basically the same old attitude at the service department that they have always had. I don't understand SMs that are not proactive when it is their job to know more than the customers they support.

I am just wondering if anyone who owns a Camaro near Augusta, GA has found an informed and worthwhile service department anywhere near this area.

Thanks guys...

I purchased (and eventually returned) the PDIM part for my 1SS. Everything was installed but for the life of them, they could not update the radio unit software or whatever it is they were trying to update. When I plugged in my Ipod, it would charge but do nothing else. The radio unit would not give an option for Ipod or USB. Any ideas why they could not get my PDIM to work?

Up until yesterday, I've not had a problem. Even with 5800+ tracks on my ipod everything worked as advertised.

Last night I added 2 cd's worth of tracks to my ipod (about 20 tracks) and bang, nothing works now, can't play anything from my ipod!!

Going to check software revs tonight when I get home!!

Been lurking on this thread and many others for quite some time, but I finally have something to contribute.

I took my Camaro to the dealer last week and they were unable to flash the PDIM module after three attempts. Apperently there is an issue right now where many of the PDIMs just won't take the update. My service manager is supposed to keep me informed weekly until the GM Helpdesk releases an update.

I'm tempted to try another dealer, I need my PDIM fixed :(

Probably the same issue that we are running into when trying to add the PDIM to a 1SS

Yeah this is the main bug with the software that was installed at the factory. If you unplug your iPod while the car is on, turn the car off, open the door, wait like 30 sec, close door, start car, plug in iPod, it should recognize again. The PDIM just got locked up and needs to be restarted. If the dealers were able to get the PDIMs updated, you could take it in, but it seems like they're having problems with the latest update. I'm really sorry that you're having problems!!! Hopefully we can get it resolved soon!
