2014 RS headlight issue

Hey all, last night I noticed my left headlight was turning off by itself about 20-30 seconds after turning it on. The halo part continues to stay lit. Is it a burned out HID bulb or something else might be wrong? Seems weird that it goes on but doesn't stay lit. I'm gonna take it to the dealer this weekend to have it checked out.

possibly a ballast issue?

Take the bulb out and put it in the other housing to test functionality. Take care not to touch the bulb itself. This should indicate a bulb or a ballast issue. I had the same exact symptoms happen to my '14 a while ago and it wound up being the bulb. Plenty of replacements out there cheaper than OEM.

This!

I had the same thing happen on my old 300C a couple months after I bought it. I took it back to the dealer I bought it from and they told me the headlight was bad and I needed to purchase another one for $1100. I took it back home, swapped the bulbs, and the problem moved to the other light. So I bought a $40 replacement bulb online and never had another issue with it. Needless to say, I'll never buy another car from that dealer.

Had the same exact problem with our 2014 2SS/RS 1LE. It would turn on for about 30 seconds like you mentioned and then turn off. It was the ballast. Bought the parts online, much cheaper, removed the front fascia and replaced both of them. Might as well replace both, the other is probably not to far behind and you don’t want to have to do the same job twice.

Greg. Replying to your post about the 2014 ballast. I tested and proved I have a bad ballast. i can't find a replacement. The OEM has ridge on the bottom, then the O ring, then nothing. The replacements all have two ridges with the O ring in between. Needless to say, it doesnt fit and the bolt holes don't line up. I've checked rock auto, online headlight companies, local auto parts etc. Any thoughts? Did you run into the same issue? Any ideas?
