Install of ZL1addons front deluxe rock guards

Trying to get these things lined up to install, and it says it uses OEM screw locations...WHAT screws??? Anyone installed these before on the front rear? It comes with 4 screws, which would indicate it uses one of the lower screws in the wheel well (I see 2 in there), but there no others. I definitely don't want to do any drilling, and these things don't come with 3m tape or anything....

Just trying to figure it out before I start on it and mess something up. This is different than when I put them on my 5th and 6th gen SS, which did actually have screws to use (and they had 3M tape). I really would hate to start putting my own holes in the wheel well (in fact, I may skip doing these since that appears to be what has to be done). The instructions are a joke.

The only reused/existing screw hole used is the bottom. You make holes into the plastic flares with the supplied screws. Install the bottom hole first, then line them up to where you like them and little pressure the supplied hole will penetrate the plastic pretty easily.

I used the one existing screw hole at the bottom of the original flare and then 3m taped all the way up. No problems, even running over 100mph many times. I've had them on since day one.

That's what it looked like. I'm kind of tired or hearing the rocks and dirt chipping away at my car, plus I love the look of it,, but at the same time, I don't really want to put holes in the car. In your opinion, is it worth it?

I got the deluxe long ones for more coverage...

It’s two tiny holes that are serving a huge purpose. Saving the rear quarters. They look factory once installed. People who have seen them think they are factory. I think it’s worth it.

Worth it ! .....you'll have to get over the tiny little screw hole for the top. It's worth it to protect the paint !

Predrill first man don't try and drive those screws in . plus once their on you'll totally forget about the little holes you made . i don't trust the 3M tape . heat, cold, water and dirt will eventually compromise its adhesive properties. I waited alil to long before getting a pair . One day while washing the car I was back on the rear quarters and I seen where he had been peppered and I said this is got to go. Now after I installed the front flares I did go back on my quarters and hit it with 2000 Grit sandpaper and buffed it out and now it's as smooth as a baby's bottom again. yeah,I only wish I would have had the knowledgeof those rock guards beforehand

My PPF installer parnters with a detailer. The price on xpels site is the price I paid for the xpel installed, total. Shop PPF installers pricing in general and if they can or have a detailer who can buff the area 1st, to take out the peppering. PPF also hides small imperfections, like swirls. Having expel installed by a certified installer guarantees it for 10 yrs. Well worth it for that alone. Googling PPF woes, you'll see ppl consistently using the xpel warranty

The tape supplied with mine (on a ZL1) was grey and therefore visible after installation. Though I heated the plastic to help shape it to the form of the fender, the tape separated near the top. I replaced it with Scotch EXTREME tape. Holding up so far and is not so visible. Might be enough to avoid drilling holes.

Get you some 2000 grit and a bucket of water and sand lightly taking care not to finger areas as you do you'll start to see the white haze which is the clearcoat. Sand lightly is the key if you've never done this. Just feel with your wet hand the areas to see if your far enough then rince or wipe area off and this is where you really need to have some experience with a electric buffer. I started with a fine cut #5 cleaner.buffing the entire area overlapping the untouched area from there wipe it all down and feel your work. I finished up with a polish doing the same as with the fine cut. Man I'll tell you now if you've never done a paint coerrection before on anything you might be better off just paying a detail shop to do this. Its not that involved but you can burn your paint while buffing if not carefull. Hope i helped you out

I left the part out about the buffing pads. Theres a sequence of pad usage also. I have quality pads. Dont go harbor freight pads. Also your wheel on your buffer has to be of good qualify also. Its more involved than i can explain on here
