Another Camaro vs Mustang thread
An acquaintance just purchased a 2019 Mustang GT with M6 and Roush cold air induction. Claims its 485hp. My 2010 SS is cammed and dyno tuned at 435rwhp, A6, 3.91 gears, Pfadt trailing arms and subframe bushings. Both cars on street tires. Drivers race or ??

You win is my prediction. From a dig you will put 2 lengths on him before he knows what happened. From a roll..use the paddles to find the right gear. Once you hammer it slip it into D and let it run.

^^^ +1. Especially if he botches the launch or misses a shift. Just don't spin out and you should take him I think

those are rated at 460 hp. He didn't gain 25 HP from that cold air intake. Those cars are just as heavy as the fifth gen, and if they don't have that 10 speed auto, they're easy to beat. You should have no issues at all destroying him, so long as you can drive

I've done several tests/comparisons with a friendly late model 5.0. The results were shocking. From a roll every time, my car walked away by several car lengths or I just left him. Even when I filmed while shifting, I grabbed 20 feet per shift on top of the 1+ car lengths per gear. I think they Mustang driver was either an awful/average driver or had something wrong with the car. They were shifting a few mph too early and getting spanked because of it, I was shifting at roughly 6175 rpm, just a split second before the rev limiter comes in. On paper they should have won. To confirm, I am 100% sure the mustang was a GT and they were doing their best. Unknown transmission, unknown if any mods.
Out of about 10 well timed pulls, The only time it stayed next to me was when I let off to listen and verify they were actually at full throttle. Then I opened it back up and continued walking. I'm guessing he was high mileage, neglected, bad driver, and or automatic. I drive a 2015 1SS with zero options besides floor mats. My best modification is the nut behind the wheel, your results may vary. I've yet to lose an acceleration comparison in this vehicle. Other mods are a pair of 20x9's up front (making my car slower), K&N drop in filter (no gains) and Hooker cat back (maybe 5 horsepower gained if that? Definitely raised the peak by a few hundred rpm due to X pipe).

if you are experienced in your car and know how much throttle to give from a dig, I would think your 3.91 are a difference maker..
Look forward to the results

I would think you win this pretty easy. Im bolt on L99 and ive walked early stock 5.0s pretty easy in a roll. I know the new ones have a little more power but with a cam you should send him home looking for bolt ons and a tuner after yall race.

Auto over manual. 99% of the time. I do like your guys stories with the stock or mild bolt on L99s. My old 11 L99 (Texas speed headers, tune, cai, street tires) ran 12.6@114 at atco. In mine shaft air. My 15 GT went faster stock.

No gears. No stall for the 12.6. My L99 just never felt quick. It was a low 13 second car stock. Even on highway pulls. It always felt Heavy. I got a slow one I guess. It was a pretty bitch though.

Full confession
I am not very knowledgeable about cars, probably less so about Camaros.
Years ago, I got my wife a '97 Mustang GT convertible, chose it over a '97 Camaro convertible. Thinking about getting her another soft top, since I wrecked her car on a trip last year . Any thoughts on the Mustang vs. Camaro for a convertible? I don't see many of either anymore. What models might be available? |
