Addition of Drag Radials over street tires
Hey all. Went to the strip for the first time today. I have a 2010 Camaro SS A6 with pretty much all basic bolt ons. Stock tires/gears/drivetrain but I do have trailing arms/toe rods. Best I got was a 1.94 60' with a 12.94 E.T. My Drag Radials will be here Monday. What kind of 60' improvement and E.T can I expect?

I have no idea how much your 60' will improve, but I'm going to be watching to find out how your car does with the drag radials.

Just got home from the strip. Drag radials definitely helped, but a little confused in some areas.
Avg E.T - 12.78 (.2 better than my stock tires) Avg 60' time - 1.92 (barely better than my stock tires) Avg MPH - 109 (can't remember with stock tires) Drag Radials = 275/40/20 Nitto NT555R Stock tires are = 275/40/20 BFG G-Force Comp2 (best at maybe 23psi?) I experimented with 18psi to 22psi. Launched at an idle of 600rpms to keep everything consistent. My burnouts were mostly just after seeing smoke. Being that I ran a 1.94 60' on stock radials, with no burnout, I think I may need to do a longer burnout on these Drag Radials. Not sure. This was my first time, for the most part, drag racing. Anybody have any thoughts??? P.S - I mainly just drive "occasionally" to work and to and from the dragstrip. I don't use the tires as a daily driver. My Dad, back in the 60's used to use slicks as his daily driver while racing on the weekends. Crazy I guess

Hey Maroon, what track did you go to? I am from Michigan originally. Your 60' times are pretty close to what mine were last summer with cold air and headers. Did you get wheelspin or any wheelhop on your launch?
When I did some mods last fall, I ran Nitto NTO5Rs first, and my experience with them was good. I ran 19 psi, but had to do longer burnouts; 5-10 seconds. However, I also ran an 18" wheel with them. I would say just continue to get seat time and more passes, but if you're spinning right now, try a longer burnout.

Hey Chris49066SS. I'm from Brighton, MI. Went to Milan. I didn't have any wheel hop. I did spin one time (for sure) with experimentation of a short burnout, barely saw smoke on burnout. I would say my average burnout (looking back visually in my head) was probably no more than 5-6 seconds after I started. This was my first time.

For sure, I know they have a track in Martin, thats about halfway between the thumb and heel of the hand. (Michiganders know). I would say you are doing fine, right around where you should be with your current mods. No wheelhop is good. As you get more comfortable with your launch, just play around with more rpm, and if you spin, next time maybe try a longer burnout, but either way, you are right on track for where you should be, given your mods. As you start to add power, you'll see that you'll have to adjust things a bit.

Thank you sir. I will do more practicing next Saturday at Milan (hopefully). I will stay around 20psi (give or take 1 psi) and do a longer burnout. My times have been pretty consistent amongst e.t/60'/mph etc...I've found out with my given set up, I have to leave just after 2nd light comes on for a really good R.T. I'll post my results again next Saturday (weather permitting). This is a bucket list for me. My Dad drag raced in the 60's and I'm following in his footsteps. I will sell the car at summer end.

I think your ET looks good from where I am sitting. I can't remember all of your mods (sorry), but I think you have some of the same stuff I have. My fastest ET (new like you, 6 passes under my belt) is 12.57. I have 4.10 gears and 26" tall drag radial, which help a lot. I'm still working on my lauch, much like you. I think you need at least 15-20 passes before you can get some muscle memory going and perfect (yeah right) your launch.
Keep it up. You have a 12 second car. When I was a kid, a 12 second street car was considered FAST AF!

I used to run NT555Rs on my 97 and they needed a long burnout to get hot and sticky because they are a harder compound. They hooked just fine with a good, long burnout though.
I swapped to MT Street SS DRs and they need less of a burnout. However, the NTs lasted longer. |

Well the drag radials dropped 2 tenths off you ET. Thats pretty good. What mods do you have.
