Finished Heads and Cam Swap w/ mail order tune from TSP, but I'm running lean...
Hi guys,
I'm frustrated on this one. On Saturday I finished my heads and cam project, plugged in my new tune and everything worked great... For a while. After about ten miles I got a CE light. I plug in my OBD2 reader and run through the three codes. The first was an intake air temp sensor 1 with high circuit input (P0113) and two codes for bank 1 running lean and bank 2 running lean (P0171 and P0174). Is this a tune issue or is my IAT sensor causing it to run lean? I had no issues prior to me doing the H/C job. I checked the MAF sensor with a multimeter and the resistance seemed normal and it responded to temperature changes. I also checked the pressure in the fuel system and it read at 30 psi. This seemed low but I'm not a sure exactly where about this should be. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading, Jake |

Your maf has the iat in it. Seems like something is messed up with the tune. See if someone can't scan your fuel trims and intake air temp. I would say unplug the maf and see what your fuel trims are but I'd bet it's maf only and will be really rich at idle if the ve was never corrected

Should add it'll run ok maf only. If you have no vacuum leaks and 02s are working than the maf transfer or ve is off in the tune. As far as the intake air temp code. That's odd. Quite possible the wrong script was ran on your ecm?

Thanks for the responses guys.
I will be looking into it some more today with the advice you've all given me and I'll pay an update if I get it resolved. |

I just did a re-test of my fuel system pressure this morning with much better quality equipment and it read at 58 psi.
I trust that reading much more than the earlier 30 psi. |

I've had 2 separate case of lean conditions on 2 separate vehicles.
The first was due to to reinstalling intake manifold gaskets after a head swap that were not sealing correctly. The original gaskets sealed fine until I removed them and I failed to notice that they were bad (no longer raised) when I reinstalled them. That lead to a vacuum leak and lean conditions on both banks. Most recently, I did a cam swap and put long tubes on my camaro. I failed to tie back the wiring harness that runs down the passenger side head and it was touching my header. After about 50 miles of driving, I got CEL with a bunch of codes: Code Type Status Description P069E PowerTrain Stored Manufacturer Defined P2534 PowerTrain Stored Ignition Switch Run/Start Position Circuit Low P0102 PowerTrain Pending Mass or Volume Air Flow Circuit Low Input P069E PowerTrain Pending Manufacturer Defined P080C PowerTrain Pending Manufacturer Defined P2534 PowerTrain Pending Ignition Switch Run/Start Position Circuit Low P0036 PowerTrain Permanent HO2S Heater Control Circuit P0102 PowerTrain Permanent Mass or Volume Air Flow Circuit Low Input P0141 PowerTrain Permanent O2 Sensor Heater Circuit P0161 PowerTrain Permanent O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Found out I had a melted harness and spent the next 3 days pulling it apart and soldering new wire in. What CAI are you running? Reason I ask is because after my build I had to go away from the Airaid CAI I was using. I was getting the same High IAT code and couldn't figure out why. Turns out the Airaid charge pipe which holds the MAF sensor was actually resting on top of the upper hose, which was causing the issue. I called Airaid and they said it was normal for there to be no gap.
I Swapped to a Z28 CAI, which has a 2" gap between the upper rad hose and the charge pipe......No issues since.
