I went with the Speed engineering catless headers. With the NPP closed its still louder than I wanted but it gets compliments everywhere. Open the valves and you have a full blown racecar. I would recommend going with Texas speed headers with Hi flows

Anyone have any experience running this set up in California, would I pass smog with the NPP and catted headers? Thanks!

You won't pass any inspection in CA with long tube headers. Most manufacturers won't even ship long tube headers to CA.

I have BTR Steadfast Stainless with Jet Hot coating. Fitment was great, and under hood temps are under-check. Sound on start up is much louder, but normal cruise is not much more noticeable. yes you need to get it tuned.

I've had the following combos in previous cars....

Edelbrock LTs/Borla catback - 87 IROC
Pacesetter LT's/Flowmaster catback - 95 Z28
SLP LT's/SLP Loudmouth catback (swapped out later for Magnaflow) - 99 T/A

Not one of them even came close to how bad ass my car sounds with LTs/NPP. I honestly get more compliments on how it sounds than how it looks. What's funny is that I actually hated the NPP before the LT's, they sounded completely different through the stock manifolds.

I have Speed Engineering catless headers, and NPP exhaust with the fuse pulled. I love the performance and sound difference after the headers install (w/tune). Cold start in the garage (w/garage door open of course) sounds like an explosion! Nice, deep rumble during normal cruising, and WOT is, well LOUD and WONDERFUL! There are a lot of exhausts that sound good. But I wouldn't spend money on changing out from the NPP; especially with headers. I installed my headers in my garage using only jack stands. No fitment issues at all. Some have reported the need to dimple the headers during installation. But this wasn't necessary on the set that I purchased in July 2018. Best of luck and post up a sound clip.

I have 2" LT's w/HFC's and NPP with the fuse pulled. I love the sound, no other exhaust sounds better- other than having a cam. With the HFC's there is no noticeable drone and it keeps the exhaust note a little quieter until you hammer it, then it is loud.

Go with 2", more power for the same price. Get the coating if you have the cash, doesn't hurt. It all comes down to how much you want/can afford to spend. There is headers for every price range. Get a tune, it makes the most of the headers/HFC's/ORP's.

There has been a lot of changes to this car since this video was taken, including the exhaust, but this is what Kooks 1-7/8" Headers, no cats, and NPP sounds like. Of course this is a 440 ci motor, but you get the idea.
