Hey All,
We were happy to have the two V6's in our shop. We are finalizing details on the two kits and will be running a group buy on them soon! Stay tuned for all of the details.

Nice write up guys. You got to love SOLO, they put forth tons of effort and really are perfectionists!

Something I don't quite understand. Why is there a difference between the manual and automatic? Aren't they both the same engine? I would assume the exhaust would be identical in both. The V8's have different engines so there no comparison can be made.

I have a 2LT automatic in my future and once I hear how these exhausts sound I may make the trip down the QEW from TO next summer. But this talk of "issues" with the automatics has me concerned.

I can't answer why there is a difference, but I can tell confirm that their was a distinct difference. The same set up on both cars produced a very differenet sound.

UPDATE

We want to say a big thanks to Grimkeeper and Aki for coming down yesterday and bearing with us during the design and testing phase for the V6 Camaro. It was a lot of fun and we appreciate your patience and support!

The V6 has been quite a challenge for us. The trouble areas for the V6 exhaust note is revving and 2000 RPM at cruise speeds. The V6 drone at 1800 to 2200 RPM is a tough note to get around and even the quiet stock GM exhaust sounds terrible at rev. We have spent two long days with the V6 Camaro’s and countless hours designing etc. when the cars weren’t there. We have made some very good progress.

We have a V6 Manual Cat Back Exhaust kit that is a completely no drone system. It sounds fantastic under load as you accelerate through the gears! The beautiful exhaust note is what an American Muscle car should sound like. Deep, mean, aggressive but not overbearing at any RPM range. The revs while in park sound wonderful if you take it up without hammering on it. If you rev it hard and fast you get a deep crackle or snap at the height of the rev. The tinny noise that the GM system makes is a memory once the Solo system is installed. We were able to incorporate our 4.5” T304 beveled exhaust tips into this kit. Looks, sound and function are woven together wonderfully in this kit. We are very happy with the V6 Manual Cat Back exhaust kit. Pricing will be finalized within a few days. We were able to mandrel bend enough pipe today for 20 kits. We are currently working on the jigs and we expect to get the Grimkeeper back for a final test fit in about 7-10 days. We will be ready to ship in about 14 days or so.

We unfortunately will not be making an Axle Back exhaust kit for the V6 Auto or Standard. We spent so much time and tried so many systems (7 configurations all with different Solo product) and there is just not enough system to work with to get rid on the dreaded V6 drone. We tried so hard for this affordable axle back option but the GM harmonic coming out of the engine just won’t let us accomplish an Axle Back kit that we are truly proud of.

V6 AUTOMATIC...This has been an exercise in frustration so far. We are right on the cusp of developing a no drone kit that sound fantastic but we still have some work to do. The team at Solo I believe rightly so will not release a kit that drones and the V6 Auto kit that Aki has is absolutely wonderful except for an unpleasant exhaust note at cruise speed. As he will attest we lessened the “drone” with each attempt and the current kit is borderline acceptable but we know we can get it to be completely no drone with a little more effort. Aki has agreed to come back to our store sometime between 10-17 days to allow us time to finalize the kit. We are committed to providing you guys with a system that we are 100% happy with and you all can enjoy at any RPM range.

This kit is very similar to the V8 Automatic. The difference is that to eliminate drone and get it to sound good at rev, we had to use 2 1/4" pipe behind the muffler. GM does this too. 2 1/2" is what we tried and it fluttered and sounded terrible. 2 1/4" for the rear section is definitely the ticket on the V6's.

Is that because you don't like it or because you got all of the information you need for now LOL?

I likey. The one thing I can't stand are the ricey sounding exhausts with the high pitch sound. This one actually sounds quite grunty and doesn't appear to developer the high pitch shriek you hear so many riced up civics have.

As far video can portray- that manual exhaust is easily the sweetest sounding V6 I've heard so far.

I'm just over an hour away from you guys and If the automatic gets sorted out and ends up sounding like that manual does I'm all over it and I'm sure many more will be as well. Nice work guys!!

I can assure you there are no high pitch sounds with this kit. We tried seven different setups on this car to get the best one we could!

Great! We will be successful with the automatic. Jeff and the crew have another idea that they are confident will work. If you live that close, you can have them install it at the shop for free!!
