I am curious what would some of you do?
Gonna probably trade in my mint 2015 Z/28 (w/AC Radio) for a brand new 2019 ZL1 1LE (A10 / Automatic). If you could swing it financially, would you? |

Depends, what’s your main motivation for maybe wanting to do it? Quicker car mor HP? Needed a change? Wanted something less analog? I have only had my Z since August, but for me the unique 427 dry sump pony car built for the track is amazing.

5th Gen Z/28, only 1801 produced, last big displacement 427 NA engine + everything else your 2015 has.

1. I want a softer ride, and the new 2019 ZL1 1LE has a new 'Tour" setting and the ride is noticeably less jarring in the ZLE over my Z/28.
1. The Automatic is less work than a stick. Bottom Line: I want a less harsher ride and Automatic. Fyi: I love the 427 N/A engine and my Z/28 in general but I will never track it ... Weekend cruising and car shows mainly. |

The simplest explanation - I like the Z/28 because it’s so beautifully old-school, which is what I wanted. Naturally aspirated, manual transmission, one suspension setting... there are so few cars like that available anymore, that the same things that make it slower than a ZL1 are exactly what I like.
So... no, not for me. But a ZL1 1LE would be a natural next step if I wanted to move on at some point from the Z, for whatever reason... so like they say, never say never. |

In that case YES.
Make sure you test drive the 2019 to ensure the tour right is what you expect Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Save your money... Put coilovers on your z/28 with adjustable dampening

The ZL1 1LE does not have a "tour" setting - it may have a "tour" button like our Z but both Z and the ZLE have a fixed suspension, with no "cockpit" ride adjustment. In addition the ZLE has solid bushings (no rubber) so the ride in general is probably not as good as the Z on the street - meaning "firm" not harsh due to the quality of the shocks.
So based on that I would say no I would not do it as you will get a faster car, that handles as well, that rides worse, with a great auto transmission. The standard ZL1 does have magna ride with adjustable suspension settings from tour to sport - giving varied ride characteristics and a much better street ride than the Z or the ZLE! So if you are thinking of a ZL1 with A10 - that seems to fit with your objectives perfectly. The ZLE will not accomplish your objectives, except the auto transmission. Good luck find what you want, lot of great options! |
