A/C Problems! Third time in a month.

So my A/C went out... The first time they thought they had figured it out and charged me with a new condenser and compressor, filled with freon, the whole nine yards. Goes out again within the next couple of days. Go back and they say the compressor wasn't compressor. Its main pulley was spinning but the one that spins when it is compresses was not. So they replaced the compressor with a new one and good to go. Its been about three weeks and it just suddenly stops working again today. I opened the hood and the compressor is not spinning again? The part is a new OEM and shipped straight from GM. Can this be an electrical problem. There is no way its three bad compressors, condensors fine, blower is fine, and freon is fine. What else is their other than electrical? Please help a man living in South Louisiana!

Well certainly they need to diagnose it properly before just changing parts. Is this a GM dealer? There are so many things that could be wrong I wouldn't attempt to guess over the net without more info. If you know what you;'re doing you could check if there is pressure in the system, that's the 1st thing you need to get the compressor to turn on. After that there is a pressure transducer that sends a varying signal to the PCM to report pressure in the system. There is a temp sensor that reports ambient temps to the PCM. Then the HVAC controller its self. Any of these could cause the compressor not to turn on. Does the AC light come on the HVAC control when pressed?

Could try 5 dollars and a box of candy.........LOL

I would hope that they checked power to the compressor clutch. Maybe the new compressors are coming from the same batch and have the same problem.

Pressures are the same on either side. And yes the light comes on. Thank you for your response. I do have a fair understanding of how this all works but I just am not sure what else to do.

I might should add that each time the AC stopped working, it was within a second. This morning I made a quick stop for about 5 minutes where it was working when I got out of my car but when I got back in and turned the car on, air was humid and warm (ambient).

And when you look the ac compressor is not engaged? When the AC is cold can you hear the compressor cycling? It should run for a few mins then shut off then turn on back on as needed to keep the pressure at a certain point. Do you have a scan tool?

Is your car tuned or running at optimum? If the engine isn't running at a certain value overall the ecm will not let the bcm engage the clutch.

Correct, the belt is working but the actual compressor is not engaging. I can see that so I know its something to do with that. In regards to hearing it when its cold, I am sure I can usually but I haven't been able to test that since it just happened this morning unfortunately. Also my car is no tuned. I have only the mods listed in my signature! Thanks to everyone for trying to assist me.

Also by it stops working in a instance... at 7:28 am its blowing nice and cold and 7:29 am its blowing hot and wont go cold again. The process of the AC blowing hot is quick.

If you have a pressure gauge attach it to the low pressure port, start the car turn on the ac and watch the pressure and watch the compressor. When the compressor stops what is the pressure reading and watch how fast it climbs back up and what it is at when the compressor starts again. It maybe that low on refrigerant or possibly the expansion valve is not opening and operating like it should causing the compressor to shut down. Sorry but without a good scan tool this will be tough to diagnose.

Are your cooling fans working? That would allow it to work for a second and then turn off and stay off until pressure in condenser dropped. Ac may work when driving down the highway if the fans are the problem.
