Chevy to Discontinue Camaro in 2023?

I read an article saying that Chevy (not said - due to the idiot bean-counters) will discontinue the Camaro in 2023 and give the car name a rest for a few years, due to slower sales than Dodge or Ford. That bad decision will make our cars more valuable if it really happens.
Chevy should do the horsepower wars schtick with both feet...say build a new HALO Camaro w/4 wheel drive (400 hp up front - electric) and a the new 800 horsepower twin turbo from the mid-engine Vette> badda bing.... a Camaro hyper-car. Electric up front with power and torque at 1RPM = killer acceleration. The same formula would vault a (mid-engine) Corvette past Lambos and Ferrari's too; and have the economy of scale.

A Camaro doing under 7 min on the Green Hell would be something else.

I've been trying to wrap my head around this news. It actually makes sense. GM has a problem selling Cars right now. Point blank.

This isn't Camaro specific. This is GM trying to be relevant and survive. The Cadillac V brand is all but done with the recent release of the new V Series, which is a joke. The mid-engine +$120K C8 Corvette has misfired and is 2 years late now. The last C7Z rolled off the assembly line on 6/24 I believe. The limited production ZR1 was actually a $140K fix to a $100K C7Z that overheated after 2 laps on track days and caused a Vette Owners class action suit against GM!

The Gen 6 Camaro SS/ZL1/1LE is probably the best built chassis and performance value GM has right now. And they can't sell enough to make up the difference.

I am not a truck Guy, but if I wanted a badass performance truck (Raptor) or Jeep (Trackhawk) what does GM have?

Cars in my sig tells you where my heart is. Not sure where I go next though.

I hope this doesn't happen. To be painfully honest, Chevrolet is not offering much in terms of product to make me stay loyal. If they cancel the Camaro I'm afraid that I'll officially call it quits with the brand. It looks like Chevrolet is taking an aimless approach to cars, and are following trends instead of making them.

Let's hope that this is not true.

From what I've read on GMAuthority, the 7th Gen is only being pushed back. We won't be seeing it until '22 or '23. For now, that is the word.

Wouldn't surprise me. That's when the onslaught of EV's is due to start from GM, and boy are they hell bent on EV and autonomous cars.

Exactly! The Corvette has always been a "sports car on a budget". GM has already felt the pain of the abysmal Camaro sales, due in part, to the large jump in price from the 5th to the 6th Gen's. They have to keep the C8 reasonably priced. A stripped C7 Stingray is ~$56k. A stripped, bottom-tier C8 model has to be in the vicinity of $60-65k. If GM decides to push the price farther north, they will be abandoning a lot of their customers and they will be in trouble.

I was speaking with a group from the local Corvette Club this past weekend and several of them are already disgruntled over the mid-engine design. Couple this with an astronomical price tag and it's game over.

As azz backwards as GM is in promoting their vehicles, they may actually think this is a great idea.

Looks like our next new muscle car will be either a Mustang or Challenger
For those "brand loyal" and have the means $$$$$,...Vette.

This right here is why I’m skeptical that they would be talking about anything related to this right now. We’re talking 5 model years (including the tail end of ‘19) this would impact if true. I don’t remember exactly when it was announced that they were killing the 4th gen but I don’t think it was 5 years before the end of production. Time will tell I hope it’s not the end.

I hope the Camaro lives on, too soon to speculate. I will say that the 5th gen, especially 10-13 looks the most like the first gen, and that was a great appeal to buyers. The 5th gen has some amazing lines that have since been lost. In this day and age of copy-cats, I'm disappointed when a 6th gen grille looks surprisingly similar to a Toyota Camry grille...ugh! I for one am happy with my throw-back 2012 SS, it's already outdated and I love it. I also hear the clutch pedal may be disappearing from the Corvette. Another reason for me to enjoy my loud, fast, LS3 M6 relic!

I haven't read every post here but does everyone realize that the Challenger's next generation is not until sometime around 2023 and the Mustang is after that.. I think GM might be playing a waiting game to see what Ford and Dodge releases...

Just a thought

I think you mean the 2010-13 front end and 2014-15 rear end.
