Replacement HUD windshield: should it literally have "HUD" stamped on it?
Hello!
New guy, first post. Short version: do replacement HUD windshields all say "HUD" on them? I know OEM ones do......how about aftermarket? Long version: I just bought a 2011 2SS from a Chevy dealer. It has a couple windshield rock chips (becoming cracks), so I've scheduled an appointment with their service department to have it replaced, on them. (They agreed to this as part of the purchase deal.) I'm new to 5th gen Camaros, but I've done enough research to know that there IS a difference between HUD and non-HUD glass. I also know the original glass literally says "HUD" on the lower passenger corner. So the question is, should non-OEM replacement HUD glass also literally say "HUD" on it too? Unfortunately, I didn't have the forethought to specify "Pilkington" glass when I was negotiating to buy the car, so they may use some aftermarket brand, I'm not sure. But if they try to pull a fast one with non-HUD glass I'd like to be able to identify it quickly. Thanks in advance! -Matt |

Tell them to replace the windshield when you go in with a Hud windshield. You'll notice it after you get it whether or not it is. If it isn't then tell them to make it right.

Tell them in advance and they can verify through the VIN. All HUD windshields are marked as such.
Distortion of the HUD display occurs on most non HUD windshields.

"All HUD windshields are marked as such."
Thanks Levon H., that's exactly what I was looking for. I know a non-HUD windshield will potentially create distortion, so I'm glad there is also a definitive way to verify a "correct" windshield has been installed, beyond just observation of the HUD image quality. (ie, the actual "HUD" lettering stamped on it.) -Matt |
