I was just about to tell you, OP... Check the dipstick tube. I had the same issue and read somewhere that the tube is cheapy metal and will leave shavings on the dipstick which is of different metal. Glad you fixed the issue! I know I was shitting my pants when I had this issue!

I was shitting bricks on Sunday, we were going on a long trip and I always check the oil before we go. I pull the stick and the metal was stuck all over it. Looks like when the stick was stamped out one side is smooth the other side had a very rough edge with 6-8 small teeth hanging on the edge at the very tip. I'm sure the dip stick is heat treated too because those teeth were sharp as a razor and tough. I had to use a small file to get them smooth and it didn't file easy. Thankfully that was the problem, dealer says they never seen anything like it..........not sure I believe them.

I checked the neighbors 17 for the same thing but his uses a better design dipstick. Its a cable with a aluminum slug on the end that shaped to slide easily inside the tube.

My steel dip stick is slightly magnetic too, just enough to grab small metal pieces. If any of you would have seen it on your dip stick you would have crapped right there and then. I was very upset about it at 1st.

Thanks for posting this PowertoLove. I'll be checking the dipstick on the 2LT when my wife gets home from work. I just checked the dipstick on my LS3 and it looks nice and smooth.

If the one on the 2LT is smooth too, it makes me wonder if you have something wrong with the dipstick tube seating in the block causing the dipstick to snag when pulled out. I'll let you know what I find on mine tomorrow. And if its jagged, I'll file it too!

After filing the end smooth it slides in nice and I can check it over and over no metal on the stick. If you look closely at the very tip of the dip stick you can see the end was stamped in a machine with a die. When mine was stamped it left a rough edge on one side. After the stick when through heat treat those burrs were turned into metal rakes.
