Can I run e85?

Hey guys, quick question. I have a ‘10 A6 with a vortech v3 (7.5lbs), stage 4 cam, fast lsxr IM, headers (catless), and meth. I’m adding a 6l90 in september, so with the dying 6l80 out of the picture I figured I might as well try e85 and make some more power. I understand you need 30% more fuel while running E, so my question is can I continue to use my FIC 850s and ZL1 fuel pump or will I need to beef up the fuel system? Also i’m currently making 607whp and 557tq, my SBE should be able to handle the extra power right? Thanks!

I very highly doubt the zl1 pump will be anywhere near capable based on my experience

Edit. It definitely won’t work. Thought you hd at least a bap

I wouldn't even mess around with an aux or a bap for what you have, I'd just go with a Triple Fore setup and ID 1700 injectors. Gives you more room to grow for when you change pulley size and run more boost. Stock crank will be fine...with a roots style blower its your axles and diff that are the weaker links now (if they are SS) then your driveshaft

I got a 4” drive shaft from DSS on the way, i figured the rear dif would be alright for now considering i dont take it to the strip and launch it, just a street car. Could be wrong about that tho. But its a centrifugal supercharger btw

Ohhh its a centri, gotcha. I am planning on building my drivetrain and establishing my fuel system before boost. I would still beef up the fuel system in case you want to change pulleys, thats just me though. Good luck with your build!

I had the V3 for a while. Made about 660 on 10.5psi with my cam and bolt ons running 93 octane. (6spd car) I had 80# inj, zl1 pump, and a BAP. Not sure of your pulley combination, but you could probably run a smaller pulley and just add a BAP if you wanted another 50-60whp on 93.

If you want to go Ethanol, it will be costly. Those injectors will be maxed out. Most people suggest going straight to a 1300cc (@43psi) to allow some headroom. I learned that the hard way. Had 80# Deatschwerks, then 1050's, then FIC1300s. I wasted some money there. I'd go 1300s at least.

Your ZL1 pump wont flow enough E to make 700whp through an auto, even with a modified FPCM. So you will need to drop some coin on a new fuel system. I chose to run the DSX Aux pump kit. It has served me well so far, but it too has its limitations. It all depends on the setup, but I'd say its good until the 850-900 range before the zl1 and aux cant keep the rails full.

If you plan on making more than that, I'd look at the AGP kit. You can get dual 450s, or even triples. Same with Fore and Squash. But bring your wallet.. $$$$$.

Agreed. Like he said, 1300 at the least, but if you just go bigger the first time with a Triple Fore/Squash, meth, and 1700 injectors, you have room to grow.

For the price of an aux pump i might as well just get a new fuel pump instead right? And do you think 700whp would be safe on a sbe? Obviously ill be increasing the power but i thought e85 and meth kinda helped by keeping things cooler and safer.
