Whipple Bypass actuator failure

While data logging I found that my LTFT's were +25. I couldn't find any obvious leaks so I did a smoke test and found that my bypass actuator had torn causing a large vacuum leak.

They do fail ... I had one go as well.

Luckily it is an easy and inexpensive fix.

I make a point of inspecting mine regularly now when I have the hood up and motor idling.

Ted.
Thanks Ted. I ordered one direct from Whipple yesterday after I found the tear. What new materials are they made out of?

Hopefully the new one will be more stout. I was surprised how cheaply this one seems made.

I had a similar failure on my bypass actuator, it happened within the first couple of months after install. I contacted Whipple and they sent me one under warranty, maybe they know it's a bit of weak point?

My afr at idle and cruise was 16-17. It started and drove fine though.

Thank you. Did you have a boost gauge? I’m thinking you wouldn’t see any boost building if that wasn’t closing.
