Brakes
I just upgraded my front brakes with an eight piston big brake kit, can I use my old front calipers on the rear?

Never heard of anyone else doing it, but if the caliper will bolt to the rear spindle and the front rotors would fit the back it might work. You will probably lose the rear backing plate or dust cover or whatever it is called. Guess you will have to try and see if all the parts will fit the rear of the car.

The rear brakes have drum brakes inside the rotors for the parking brake.

Okay so are the front and rear rotors the same size on the ss then, otherwise doesn’t sound like he can do it if rotors are not the same size.

He's not talking bout changing the ROTORS, only the calipers, and the fact that the parking brake is inside the rotor, has no effect on the calipers.

On the SS, the pad size and rotor size are different on front/back. The back rotors and pads are slightly larger. I think it could work. I've done plenty of brake work on my car.[/URL] I've completely removed the rear calipers temporarily when I painted them. The rear calipers are not connected to the parking brake.

THis wouldn't effect changing calipers and/or rotors. But why would you want to put the smaller 'front' hardware on the 'rear'? Currently the rear brake hardware is larger in size.

Pretty sure the front calipers are larger if not more pistons... thats why I would swap them.

I'm sure the front and rear rotors are different sizes. They are on my V6, so i'm sure they are on a 2SS. Unless, you're trying to use your old front brakes to upgrade your rear brakes, but not sure the brackets will match up. Let us know.

SS Front brake rotors = 13.976" dia, 1.259" thick (new). Rear rotors = 14.37" dia, 1.102" thick (new). These are 2010 numbers, but they should be the same for 2011.
V6 Front brake rotors = 12.64" dia, 1.181" thick (new). Rear rotors = 12.40" dia, 0.906" thick (new). Guess the V8 needs more parking brake "space" than the V6. |

No you can't put the front 4 pot brembos on the rear. Not without some modifications. Also, whats the point? You don't need such large brakes in the rear.
