Question, so if they do a paint correction, will they fill in or remove small rock chips before they apply PPF or ceramic coating?

I'm actually thinking about what Flow did. PPF on nose, front fenders, hood, mirrors, and ceramic coating on all other surfaces and glass since less likely to get hit by rocks.

Last question Flow, when you see the PPF area and the Ceramic area, can you tell the difference is there a shade color difference?

Thanks for input.

Hi,

When my car was new I had a paint correction detail done - then put on Xpel ultimate to cover the primary areas that would take rocks etc.

Mine was custom, not the cut pieces - they covered entire front face and splitter, hood, hood vent, front fenders, behind front fenders along lower 2/3rd of door to rear fender (door below natural transition of panel seam which is just below the door handler and the Z/28 side logo), behind the rear wheels along a similar seam on the lower portion of the rear end and the side mirrors.

$2,800 installed + $1,000 for paint correction detail. The paint correction detail guy worked on the car in my garage for 8 hours one day and 4 hours the next. Looked pretty sweet when he was done!

That plus ZL1 rock guards are well worth the cost to keep the road rash to a minimum.

Over $80 an hour for paint correction detail... damn. I'll also be glad when the ceramic coating evolves to where the average guy who can takes good care of their car will be able to apply it. (And it will) They are getting their pound of flesh for the application now... and many of them are clowns.

Good ones are few and far between

It takes proper prep and lots of practice and experience with the various ceramic coat products. Lots of errors and re applications on their cars, family, and friends. Hours and hours. Remove and repeat.

I want the results without the heartache. True craft to have the eye, feel, and critical thinking skills to understand what the paint/compounds/pads/machine/application of coatings and ppfs need to be effective without damaging the car. Patience is tremendous for these guys

Not to mention health risks. Unless you're on a mask with filter and rubber gloves, your getting some sort of illness in the long run consistently using these coatings

I got a quote from zenith auto works here in cypress.

$990 for partial PPF front area
and $1389 for ceramic pro silver 5 yr,
Includes correction, and wheels off.

What ever wheels off means? Wonder if that’s a fair deal.
Will do my homework and shop around. ZAW, they do have excellent reviews.

That wording is just their package, ask what products are used and procedures are performed. Pro probably means they're using a ceramic coating only available to detailers. Some require curing with heat.

My cquartz finest reserve ceramic coating was applied twice on the body, same with my dlux coating on the wheels and calipers.

Really with the warranties they're conservative, especially with a car thats never driven and not in the elements. Each year you'll probably be asked to come in for a maintenance detail to check the coating and 'reload' it, to keep it fresh

Yes, I could NOT believe the shine on the car when I went to look at it, Crazy!!

rcandiloro hit the nail on the head. That's the process and it's pretty time consuming. They took a couple of days to finish the car.
Funny, I've had several buddy's say the same, "Wait till you wash it...."
They described it EXACTLY as you did. Totally different experience and EASY to clean!!

I think there are 3 different PPFs out there.
XPEL, 3M, and SunTek. (someone correct me if I'm wrong)
The Shop I went to uses Suntek Ultra. It's got a 10yr warranty.
The ceramic coating has a 5yr warranty.
They wash/detail the car thoroughly, paint correct it (remove swirl marks) before they apply the film, then the ceramic coating last.

My car was in pretty decent shape, paint correction was $300, the ceramic coating was GTechniq Crystal Serum $695, and the glass coating was $100.
The PPF in the areas I originally described was $1550. Compared to other shops I looked at, they were WELL below the others.

Hammdo (Don), I will drive it more now that it's protected!!

At the end of the day, it wasn't cheap, but I'm REALLY happy with the way it came out and have the piece of mind knowing it's got protection on it for spirited driving!!
damn nice dude! I'm wanting to do the same to mine soon. I just hit 14K miles yesterday.
