Very true. A car's "potential" will not win a race. What you brung to the line will.

I have however bought some cars just for their potential.

please, without youtube or driveway party comments, prove otherwise.
The gt2 runs the motortrend figure eight in 22.9 seconds at .90g, while the GTR runs it at a much slower 24.1 seconds at .86g.
Also, part of the same test, the gt2 runs a lap in 57.5, as opposed to the GTR's 58.1.

A figure eight is all about how balanced a car is, not as much about the power.

Very true, but in the case, both cars (the l99 and ls3) are capable of the same times, just the ls3 has more potential. Its not like the ls3 has more potential but can't run the times the l99 can, they both can run equal times, with more potential going towards the ls3, because of its significantly higher trap speed.

Do you see what I mean?

I didnt bash anything. You brought up a gtr vs gt2 comparison not me. Then i used times from the ring to compare the cars ( a practice started by porsche and bmw) . Then you go on to post a figure 8 time from mt, the same mag you said was not a valid source not even a few days earlier when i used mt to show you multiple american cars besting german cars after your " germans make the best cArs in the world " comment

You don't wanna measure Automotive manhood against me T. What's up brotha, long time no see anywhere. Crashed the computer that I had your board book marked on. I tried to get BigT to hook me up with your info, but he didn't. Hope all is all right. Got me a couple of new, or new to me rides in the stable now.

You would think that a 6.2L with more compression would. My little 5.7 in my 99 camaro with a little more cam than my 2010 has, but with the same compression kicks my new SS's butt on the same size shot. Due to all of the stuff on my 99 there is only about a 150# Difference in the cars. I've got some fairly exotic heads on my 99, but the LS3 heads outta the box flow really well. LS1's are still in the game.

Right now people in the turbo6 community always say that there is no such thing as a stock Turbo Regal any more, it's getting that way with the LS1's.

Remember, LS1 Torque arm suspensions are very tuneable, it's still all trial and error with the new SS's. There are some 4th gens in the 1.2x range, there are loads of 4th Gens in the 1.3x range, I don't know if I've seen any 5th gens break out of the 1.6x's. Even with less HP, a well setup 4th gen should always be able to leave harder than a 5th gen. If you drag race, unless you have something like a Supra, usually the race is decided in the first 330' with the drivers being equal. Most of the people I've seen in 5th gens @ the track are still in the 2.0-2.1x short time range, I'm hitting pretty inconsistant 1.6x's & that's on DR's, Torque Arms, Shocks & Hardened axles, so I'm not holding back when I leave the line. In about a month I'll have some 17" bogarts on the new SS, then we'll see how much lower I can get my short.
