I had a Charger SR8 and now own a Camaro SS and IMHO, the SS is the way to go... I raced a friend that has a Charger SRT8 Super Bee, on a roll starting at around 60 miles per hour and beat the guy by about a car. The SRT8 has all the boltons possible, plus a cam and ported heads, my SS is 100% stock, so performance wise. The SS is not only less expensive, but it also gives you better performance than the SRT8.

You also have to factor in the 'Gas Guzzler Tax' on the Challenger SRT. The G8 GXP and the Camaro SS do not get hit by that tax.

If that SRT8 has all the boltons possible and a cam, he has issues... A stock SRT8 is a good match for a stock SS. I full bolt on srt8 with a cam and ported heads should be a low 12 if not a high 11 second car.......

As for choice, it is what you like the the best. Might I sugges checking out a Challenger R/T with the Super Track Pack? THey are not that much slower than an SS or SRT and the super track pack is only a $400 option and adds a larger rear swaybar, 3 season tires, and bigger brakes.

Actually the GXP does have to pay a GG tax, same as the SRT at $1700. It has deeper gears and the automatic gets the LS3 so no cylinder deactivation

I thought it did but I just looked at the EPA website and the 2009 G8 GXP is not listed as a gas guzzler, all the SRT8's are, as is the Mustang GT500 but the G8 isn't. GM has the Chevrolet Corvette (ZR1), Cadillac Fun Coach/Hearse, Cadillac Limousine, STS, and XLR. No Pontiac listed.

That may have to do with there being no2010 model or none of them no longer avail, but it definatly has one, got the info edmunds, when you price it out it adds it to the price, also I have the Road and Track article where the compared the Charger SRT8 and the GXP and it also states it has it and the combine MPG for it is only 15 (it is either 20 or 22 MPG highway)

Ok, ok. The GXP gets the Gas Guzzler Tax. Me and DG were mistaken, it happens.

The Challenger is still the slowest of the 3 cars he is considering buying.

Man this is like " who do you like the hot blond, brunette or redhead model? "

The answer is simple really. You take all three for a test drive. You run them hard, put em away wet, and take home the one that gives you the biggest thrill.

And everyone will have a different opinion. Go with the one YOU like!
