If you haven't already I would call GM directly as well as your warranty company, just to make sure claims are started and you aren't forgotten since the problem happened so close to the end of your warranty period. They have legitimate reasons for not taking up a rack with your car due to the strike, they may be stuck with cars taken apart waiting of parts (although I'm sure of those could be pushed in and out if need be) but dealerships are usually very slow for major repairs anyways. They had my Camaro for over a month to work on the transmission, and this was not during a strike.

Regardless, make sure you call every day to make sure they know they need to prioritize you a bit. Someone who tells a dealership or repair shop to take their time will end up regretting it when they get put on the back burner for too long. Not that I'm saying to rush them, but reminding them that you're waiting is a good idea.

And they do need to perform a teardown inspection even if the motor is seized, as there has to be a cause for why the motor went bad if it's going to be covered under warranty. If the oil pump went out or you threw a rod they're going to need to be able to tell GM or the insurance/warranty company about it.

Since your original post says warranty ended on the 6th you really need to call ASAP if you haven't already to open a claim, with invoice/estimate info to prove that it was towed/dropped off before it expired.

Y’all never had your car in for major work. Even a speed shop, as referenced on first page, would be any quicker at this point.

Ha...now that's funny shit.

I was never offered a loaner, nor a rental. Had to have a friend drive 190 miles from Durango Co, to Alamosa, then he so amazingly drove my daughter and I, the remaining 9 hours home...now we are sharing a car.

What I would give for a rental, loaner...anything!

I have called gm directly...I have the number to a customer service liaison. I have also spoken directly with Zurich to confirm that warranty is active.

The R.O. was written on the 28th, but hasn't been submitted. I do call them every other day and email. I see good reviews, but dont understand what I saw there and what has gone on.

For example, they could have picked my engine and left my car outside to do a diagnostic. The day my car was towed in the only tech they had in house, sat in a darkened shop playing on his phone from 11:30am to 2pm.

I really want the strike to end for the sake of the employees and for myself...damn

I have had my car in for major work, unfortunately.

What I haven't had happen is a dealer seem to not give a shit about my car. 2 full weeks of no diagnostic ...no loaner or rental offered. No appropriate information sent to my warranty. It's like pulling a teeth from a tiger to get information from the dealer. i called the service manager and havent been worthy of a call back.

I feel bad for ya bro but let me give you a little advice. I've worked for a fortune 500 company for 30 years (a copier company, so you can all pretty much guess the one). The customer that gets taken care of the most is the one who bitches the most. Call every freaking day if you have too, you will be known and heard, believe me. We are talking about a major purchase here and as the owner you have rights for that vehicle to operate. So, if it needs a new motor, so be it but do not let up and think you're "bothering" them. They should be kissing your butt as a customer. Good luck!

Dealer sent another vague email...as soon as they know they will contact Zurich.

To date I have called the service manager - no call back
General Manager - No call back
Customer Service Liason - No Call back
Gm has now escalated my ticket...which means what?

I admit I suck at waiting, but from 9/28/2019 to today, and no official diagnosis...no parts ordered...nothing submitted to my extended warranty and I call BS 15 full days. The strike has nothing to do with their ability to diagnose my car.

Not to mention, how am I supposed to get my car....I am 9 hours away and no one has an answer for that one either

Update -

Still nothing being done at the dealership, and have run it up the Chevy pole. I have a senior adviser assigned to my ticket and communicating. Additionally the Sales Manager at the dealership is now involved since the GM and the Service manager can't call me back.

GM and the union have come to preliminary agreement, and hopefully workers will return to work and getting paid tomorrow!!! So thankfull!!

Yeah that is a crazy amount of time for a dealership to have not started.
I see it says you are in SD, I would say do what I did when my car broke down in Vegas and I was also in SD... take a flight to pick it up once ready and the dealer will most likely pick you up at the dealership, or just Uber. Plane tickets are actually not too expensive one way, but that is one long drive!
FYI justfly has great deals for cheap flights... People talk shit about Spirit but I'm not picky. ~$30-50 round trip or one-way for a lot of flights

So... I'm seriously thinking about walking away from Chevy period.

After talking to the senior advisor with Chevy, and her talking to the dealership, she has confirmed nothing had been done and I have to be patient. They don't have the lifts available due to vehicles in process, and parts aren't coming in. No prospective date... no tug... no kiss... no reach around.

21 days of no car... no loaner... no rental... nothing. Wow, just wow!

I hit a deer with my 2016 2500 High Country Silverado a month ago tomorrow. I just got it back yesterday from the dealership bodyshop. The holdup I was told was the GM strike. Parts had to be sourced from other dealerships. Not co-signing the tardiness, just stating that from what I was told the strike was slowing things down system-wide. I am sorry this has happened to you. It has got to be terrible to have such a problem on a vehicle you still owe money on. I hope your warranty company comes through for you.

i don't know what to say that haven't been said. i would try to communicate with the warranty company for everything that is going on at the dealership. it is a shame and im sure the dealership is overwhelmed with upset customers at this point who were waiting before you and waiting after you. i am sure the managers and employees are up to there eye balls in complaints and i wouldn't be surprised if some are contemplating on finding new jobs to get away from this mess.

I would be trying my best with the information you have on the upper management numbers you have to see if it is possible for them to loan you a working car as compensation over this problem as not having a car is only impacting your ability to get to work and care four your daughter and having to rely on a by the sounds of it a epic awesome friend. I would be pointing out to them the loss of possible money this could be causing to really stress the financial impact this loss of a car is causing because it cant be torn down yet because there racks are taken up and stress to them it is not there fault because the strike is impacting everyone who has nothing to do with the strike. but most importantly id be communicating every day with the warranty company

as to the why they cant look at my car and start working on it. in my time in school for auto shop my teacher use to run a dealership mechanic side of things. he would tell us the bad side of it. a tech cant even touch a car or work on a car if no lifts are available its for safety and also rules, that if they miss diagnose a car because they cant do a proper look with there tools and equipment it could lead to ordering the wrong parts, loss of money and time on the customer side not only that but there are many many people who would love to jump a lawsuit over that stating the mechanics are badly trained etc etc and there is regulations the dealership mechanic has to operate by. the mechanics don't get payed the same as a independent shop as well who charges by the hour no matter how long it takes them. if the repair book for a engine tear down sez 18 hours and it takes the mechanic 20 or 25h hours the dealership can only charge the 18 hours to the customer witch means there paying out the nose in pay on the mechanics and in some dealerships they dont even pay the tech for the exstra hours it took so there working for no pay because its looked at as there fault they could do it in book time. witch means loss of money all around, the warranty company probably has the same book for what the repair cost will be, hours it should take as well and wont pay for anything but what they were told is the solution. whether that be a new motor or a rebuilt motor. it is tough and i truly truly feel horrible for the situation your stuck in, it is not fair and it should never be accepted. sadly in this case the best you can do is try to negotiate a loner car from them for the time it is taking. my friend did this on his cobalt ss for a problem on his transmission 5 returns an 40 days total for the same problem without a car, he got a loner car after poking every gm manager he could(granted the cobalt was a POS with many problems). its a bad situation all around

sorry if this was hard to read i am basically illiterate when it comes to written English due to the many learning disability's i have to deal with and did not know i had them until i was 2 years in to collage and the placement tests i took showed them yaay no student left behind lazy crap California has witch only furthers the uneducated problem
