Noise when backing up

Does anyone have any information about noise when in reverse? Stick shift not automatic.

I do, it sounds like something in unlocking, its weird. Sometimes Ill start my car and stand outside of it, giving it a one two, letting it warm up and smoking a cigarette, and it sounds like someone is inside the car playing with my stick....shifter....perverts...and I have no idea what it is.

It almost sounds like a grinding noise. It is not random it is very consistant. The car performs normal. It is not different if on a flat sruface or slanted surface. It almsot sounds like a frog. As something is rotating it gives this weird sound.

not too sure about the noise you are referring to, need some more description, but there have been a few posts regarding the clutch being loud when at very low speeds, going into neutral or reverse as you're parking or coming to a light going into neutral. It's the clutch disengaging.

Mine did the same thing. It is a known issue with the heat shield rubbing against your drive shaft. Just take it into the dealer nto get it fixed.

Mine does the same thing and I thought it was the wheel bumping against something. Only happens in reverse and I also have a big...stick. This and my squeaky breaks have been my only issues.....That and the darn skip shift.

Found out that I just need to seat my breaks and have my dealer fix this one. Thanks Camaro5!!

Yes I just started getting those stupid squeaky brake issues too. Yeah that stupid skipshift is a pain. Apparently they have a plug they designed for the corvette that makes it so you don't have to jump from 1st to 3rd gear or 4th gear, but i have found if you just give it a bit more gas it clears that skip shift thing that tells you to shift to 4th from 1st. Might want to do some more checking on the plug thing.

The sound you may be hearing might be the ABS system doing a system check when you first start moving. It sounds like a groan. Could this be the sound you are refering too?

Next time you are backing up just put your foot on the brake pedal very lightly and see if you feel it in the pedal when it makes the noise. This will let you know if the sound you are hearing is the ABS system self-check.

It sounded to me like it was the rotor grinding against something. I really thought it was coming from that area. I do not know why it only happens in reverse> Several people have had the same issue. When my car was on the lift, I noticed that the heat shield where it went over the drive shaft, was off center quite a bit. Come on GM engineers. Cant align the heat shield correctly? :(

OK, so it is in the shop now and I will have an answer later today as to what the problem really is with the noise and if the heat shield is really the issue. They told me another person came in yesterday complaining about the same issue but it was when he was going forward not reverse. Will keep you all posted.
