Is a 416 worth it?
Seems like so many options, varying components, varying compression ratios etc. Would like more NA power though. Kits seem cheap but labour is probably through the roof!! Opinions?

I chose to build a 416 over a standard displacement LS3 for road racing purposes, the increased torque really helps our heavy cars move.

I was just asking myself the same question. To make really good HP they need a larger head and a good intake.

You will be good for 575-650 HP on ported LS3 heads if everything else is setup properly depending on application (assuming street intake, no hi-ram). Anything more you will need to go larger. |

N/A can get very expensive when all things are considered. I think that's why you see so many boosted cars these days. But if you're trying to build something for the track or something a little different a stroker set up is hard to beat. We can put a engine package together for you if you're interested.

Spec it for about 11.5:1 cr with stock(ish) size combustion chambers and .030" compressed head gaskets....and a cam to compliment such an engine. Just my opinion. KW

The question is...…."what exactly does "really good HP" mean?" KW

A 416 should easily be able to hit 600+HP and around 500lbft of torque.

From research I have done they average is 510 to 550 rwhp with a manual. Now if you go bolt ons extreme and light flywheel it would be more. Say your average cammed camaro is 480 rwhp, that's 1.27 hp/cubic inch. So with that being the same you would be at 531 rwhp.
A good shorter runner intake, large cam and great heads you can get upper 500's I'm sure
