Doesn't go into gear

I have a 2015 auto SS.

I can move the shifter from park to all the positions but the car doesn't go into gear. It's like it's in neutral because it can be pushed.

Sometimes I can shut the car, start it back up a drive a little bit but as soon as the car comes to a stop, it won't move again.

I scanned the computer but there were no drivetrain codes found just some about Oxygen sensors since there's no cats.

How would I check the level? I don't recall it having a dipstick.

You don't. The automatics do not have a dipstick as they are a sealed transmission. You have to get under the car, remove a bolt, and check the level while it is hot.

You must be under the car and car must be horizontal.
Warm the car to operating temp and have gone thru the gears a couple of times, remove the plug in the trans pan under car and if you have fluid come out, the level is okay.

But don't confuse the drain plug. The filler hole is a small stopper just above the trans pan.

How do I know if the level is correct?

Now that the tranny is cool, it seems to be working normal. Ugh...

You must to unscrew the plug.
And if the oil slowly starts to run out, it's okay. If not, it will want to add.

There is a little volume difference of cold / hot oil.
Therefore, it is good to measure the level at the car's operating temperature.

Oh ... Of course.
I take it for granted. That's why I didn't write it.

Had the fluid and filter changed, drove about 30 miles and it happened again.
Shutting the car off and restarting it allowed me to turn around and backup but that was it.

Any other suggestions?

Have you scanned for transmission codes? It could be the TCM.

Most likely need to pull the unit and inspect. It may need a rebuild. It can be many different things; internally. Bad clutch(s), piston, damaged pump, etc.

I'm going to bring it to a tranny shop on Monday.

I took it out today and paid careful attention to how it ran. I drive it locally for maybe a half hour with no issues. It up shifts and down shifts without any issues, both auto and manually.

So far it hasn't acted up at all. But when it does it goes from perfectly normal to not going into and gear unless I turn the car off and restart it. In this case it may work for a minute, not at all or for a while.

Very strange...
