What Does GM Make on each Camaro sold??

I know if the dealer sells for msrp they make $2k or less. I think on my car it was about $1,700.

But how much does GM corporate make per car?? The sticker on my car was $31.800. Does anyone know what it cost GM to actually make this car? I mean the actual profit after overhead, labor and parts. Do you think they bottom line $10k per car? More? Less?
Just curious....

that sounds about right to me madmaxx18. GM and the dealer's aren't making big money on the Camaro, i don't think.

Maybe one of our fine dealers here will chime in. I understand there's not alot of "room" on the Camaro price wise for the dealer and it is actually under 2k for the dealer.

Maybe I should re-phrase my question. The Camaro is a new car and it cost GM hundres of thousands of dollars just to set up the plant for production. It will probably be a looong time before they make any money on the Camaro.

So let me ask about an already established model....Impala? Malibu? etc. What is the average clear profit GM makes per car?

$2000.00 sounds extremely LOW..I would think more like if they M.S.R.P. was $37,000.00 they probably got it for about $27,000.00...$10,000.00 to the dealer...I had buddies in the car business and every time they sold a brand new car they always got a nice commision check for thier sale. Whats the point of selling a $40,000.00 car just to make a little ol' $2,000.00 ....Nope doesn't sound right...

Ohhhh, how I wish you were correct. Unfortunately not the way it works! lol At least not here and not for the last 5 years that I've been in the car biz.

I will be waiting to hear if anybody knows how much $$ GM makes on each car sale. I have no idea. Should get some interesting answers.

my brother used to work at chevy and he told me about 10 years ago it costs gm about $5000 per car just to pay for the health care for their employees I doubt gm makes any more than a couple thousand per car sold its clear isnt it or why would they have gone bankrupt

go to edmunds.com and look up the invoice. trucks/suv's have the most money as far as markup goes from my 6 mo experience in the car business was. I know i worked for a ford dealer ( i needed job since i just got laid off) and trucks and suv's always have/had with rebates around 10k you could get off. Mustangs were only about 1500-2k depending on model. i/e i know a base GT premium was 32k and invoice was just a tad over 30k.

Exactly why I 'typically' keep out of these types of posts. Doesn't matter what people in the business say, nobody believes you.

I can tell you with 100% CERTAINTY that my dealership has never made $10,000 on the sale of one car...new, used or otherwise...at least in the 5+ years that I have been selling cars here.

PS...If we did make $10,000 on a car I could afford to buy that beach-front property in Nevada

Very true I bet you dont make that much off the car...I believe the original question was how much GM makes..not the dealer. However..Since we ventured into this territory lets chat about it.

10k profit off just sale? Highly unlikely
Kick backs for extended warranty? Yes
Kick backs for doing business with bank who loans? Yes
Goofy "dealer protection etching on windows so your car can be found when stolen" charge? Yes
Money from trade in sale? Oh hell yes...
Accessories like clear bras, rear mats, shiny goodies? Probable

The list goes on and on...

Its not just about the "sell" of the car now is it?
