Triple Springs? MEH...… And BTW one real good overrev if your in a manual due to forced mechanical downshifting and you have taken the life of the springs..... Never heard of triples...LOL And you may find that Cams with rollers do fail if not broken in right with High ZDDP oil for a good period and it just takes time..... so way down the road they fail or even eat rollers/lifters. I used to preach on here about using driven racing oil, I use br30 for break ins a couple rounds, there tech articles are the best and frankly anyone whose anyone sell or use Driven now or at least know of it and have to wonder. Sure I am just a oldster who built decades worth of hot rods, but unless some things done right it can fail and even then. I use a 8620 core even something the manufacturers came out with after many years ago complained...…… Good Luck sounds like you need it.

Pretty sure it’s a bad lifter. I’m gonna tear open the motor today. Well pull the intake and valley cover and run a camera in there to verify it. Also heard of people having the reluctor gear backing out and hitting the cover. So I’m gonna spend time today and tomorrow going through everything I can with out tearing the engine fully apart. Thank you for asking. I’ll keep ya posted.

Don't sweat it man. I'm sure he didn't mean it the way it came out. Kinda like texting and realizing you put your foot in your mouth.

May I ask how noticeable the noise is? Is it more of a squeak or a chirp? Sounds decently bad, keep your head up

Been a while since I could make any update. I had to help a buddy over the weekend put a 5.3 in his truck because that truck had a lifter issue and ate the cam. So they just bought an engine and I swapped it. Anyways I threw my back out and I just got the chance today to start going through my engine and I think I found the problem. I’m pretty sure my upgraded brass trunioun kit on my rockers went bad. Causing the chirp. I haven’t been able to confirm it 100% yet but first I pulled the intake and valve covers and valley cover off and turned the engine over and I kept hearing the noise, well after I removed all the rockers the noise seemed to go away and almost every rocker was extremely hard to pivot. Not sure if that’s normal or not, but I’m gonna try and throw a stock set in and see if the noise goes away.

Well when you removed the rockers you also took all the pressure off the lifters. But if you have a stock set hanging around sure why not see if it saves a head and cam pull. If all the rockers felt the same, more likely a lifter.

People are responding and trying to help you. With only having 26 posts, don't get butt hurt because someone used "lol". And like that person or not, he did provide some info about cam material. Google Kip from Cam Motion and include LS3 in the search. You did state you were a mechanic. Did you perform the install? There are many items that need checked. Yes it was a kit, but things still need checked. Ptv, pushrod length, shims for springs, possibly degree the cam, etc. What was the cam core? Many cams were not heat treated correctly and used a lower quality of steel. Before throwing the oem lifters back in, look at the cam lobes for wear, if you haven't yet. That is where the score marks would be located. Not many problems at the cam bearing surface. Unless the cam lobes got ate up and metal fragments damaged the bearings. Many articles and videos about chirping and whine after having an aftermarket cam installed for awhile. Too much or little spring pressure to control the valve train can contribute to the issue. How fast did you usually spin the motor? That would dictate the amount of spring pressure needed, along with the amount of lift.

This is very true lol. It very well still could be a bad lifter but either way I really don’t like how these rockers feel so I’m gonna try to get a new trunion set or see if I can find a stock set just to throw in and try real quick. Much rather try that first then tear half the motor apart for no reason.
