What am I forgetting?

So I bought a Whipple 2.9 kit to bolt on to my 1LE but during my "while you're at it" I discovered a crack in one of my sleeves. I have since found a slightly used LSA bottom end and AFR heads so I'm doing my own build. My goal is to be around 650 at the wheels when I'm done.

I expect I'll be borderline with the injectors that come with the kit but I'm also trying to make sure I replace anything that will be difficult to do later. For example, I have a new monster clutch on the way. I already have a trunion upgrade, PDS stage 3 cam, melling oil pump, lifters, head studs, etc.

For those that have gone through the process, what's the one thing that you wish you had done while you had everything apart for your build?

1LE already has a ZL1 fuel pump and the kit comes with a FPCM. Will that get me to 650 or am I pushing my luck?

I guess it depends on the programming in the FPCM and size of injectors. You will probably be close to max. I did 659 whp with a LSX crate motor and LSA supercharger on a ZL1 pump and ADM FPCM. I installed a DSX aux pump and 1300 injectors when I went e85 and swapped pulleys.

Thanks for the input.

Like Vegas, I got to about 670rwhp on the ZL1 and ADM FPCM. At the time I had 65lb injectors and was running 93 octane.

at 650rwhp, you'll be living on the edge of reliable fuel pressure at WOT upper RPMs.

A boost-a-pump would probably give you a decent safety cushion, but a twin or tripe pump setup would be the better way to go, if the budget supported it.

Ok, so I'm probably borderline with fuel but I'm going to wait until after my first trip to the dyno to see where I baseline with the new setup. Especially because I'm probably going to have to swap pulleys to get to my goal.

Those are relatively easy parts to replace... what's the one thing that made you say "shit, I should have done this while I had it all apart"?

Might need a bap to get you there, zl1 pump with fpcm programmed and bap should be safe to 725whp without bap might be more like 625. But if i were you, I'd see where you can get it to without the bap then when you want another 150hp get a dsx aux pump and forget the bap

A lot of people go to the ls2 dogbone timing chain tensioner. If you are doing the clutch i would add the remote bleed replace the slave. A good crank pulley puller. Crank Pin kit, that probably came with your whipple kit.

That sounds like a good plan.

Got the dogbone chain guide and the remote bleeder and fresh slave with aluminum bearing support for the clutch.

So everything I have is for an LS3 but I ended up with an LSA short block. The LSA crank has a woodruff key so it doesn't need to be pinned. The ATI LS3 damper hub has a keyway so I'm hoping it bolts right up and maintains the offsets for the LS3 accessories. I won't know if it works until I get a bit farther along with the build.
