Diff bearing failure
Anyone experience diff bearing failure really early? 65k on my car and there is a loud decel howl, and we took it apart and the entire center chunk moves side to side almost half an inch. one bearing looked like this

Things do happen. I see plenty for warranty work with less than 80k miles. A lot of times it was a leak and they started running without fluid though.

Im pretty careful at making sure i dont leak fluids. i dont like the smell of diff fluid. it sprung a leak, changed the seal and didnt leak for a week then started again. always made sure the fluid was full unless i didnt drive it ( recently 2 weeks no driving) but yeah. all of them are like this some worse than others. the front pinion race was really bad but the bearing looked fine but not worth the risk. I have new SKF bearings and seals for the axle and a motive kit coming for the pinion bearing and seals since national is completely out of stock right now. Ill be going to a 3.45. the 3.73 i want are way too expensive so for now this will work. My tuner is updating the file.

Yes, I've had a bad carrier bearing and pinion bearing. Can also sound like marbles rattling around in the diff. Mine did it at around 32,xxx miles. It happens, even with all the maintenance in the world done.

Consider 3.91s? They work really well in these cars and are not too expensive.

Funny part, no noise at all except a slight decel howl. NOTHING else. no clinking, clunking etc

You won’t notice that much of a difference in the 3.91’s I’ve got‘em in my 10SS and still get 24’ish on the highway doing 80
