Hey everyone, just wanted to thank y’all again for all the help and insight when I was losing my mind on what was causing that noise. As stated it was a lifter. Looks like the needles came out of the roller. Head smack!! Anyways between that happening, me losing my job and this whole pandemic I haven’t been able to get her back up and running. Well I finally have enough saved up to buy new parts.
So my question is what lifters do y’all recommend? I was told Morell was a pretty good lifter but never heard of it. Also I will be having TSP make the same exact cam I had so I don’t have to go and have my car retuned. I will most deff be checking Preload this time. Now some people are recommending I change my springs. Never heard of that before. They are the BTR double titanium .660. I would love some input on the springs if you think I should replace them or if it’s not necessary. Anyways the biggest trouble I’m having is picking a good lifter so I don’t have this happen again because now I’m extremely paranoid about this happening again. Any direction you can point me to I’d greatly appreciate it! Thanks and hope everyone’s doing well in this crazy time! |

Johnson are great but might require adjustable push rods as you have to have the length spot on. They apparently free up 20-28hp. I'm pulling this from a recent thread i read i don't know much about them personally. Most use ls7 lifters. The btr springs are supposed to be replaced every 25kish miles if you have a high lift cam so figure out howe many miles are on yours and make your decision from there.

It's due to the amount of lift you are running high lift higher rpm weakens the springs faster. You start to lose spring pressure with a high lift cam, float a valve and it hits the piston. Stock ones should be changed too if the car is driven hard they wear out it just takes longer and if you start floating valves it might not be enough to hit the piston on stock stuff. My BTRs are dual spring they have higher spring pressure to be able to snap the valve closed faster than a stock would as the lifter falls off the mountain, the higher the mountain the faster the valve needs to close
