Busted E-brake Cable

Got my Green Flash inspected today and had them fix my e-brake. The cable on the assembly itself snapped so the handle and all needed replacing. Dealer only part so it was pricey!!! Thought I’d post a picture of it in case anyone has issues, this is probably what it is!!

You could've gotten a pair of ACDelco cables for $20 off rockauto.com. Don't ever believe that there are dealer-only parts.

Hell, I replaced virtually all the park. brake parts on my '79 Vette 5 yrs. ago....NOT that big of a deal....I got the parts thru Corvette Central.....NOT that big of a job.....doesn't sound like you're mechanically inclined, or maybe you don't have the place/tools to do stuff......so then U gotta "pay the piper"!!

I could not replace just the cables. The broken one comes right off the park brake assembly, therefore the entire mechanism had to be replaced. Since I do not have a garage It would have been a real pain in the ass for me to do it. Maybe if I was 30 years younger....

The picture is directly above the driveshaft underneath.

Had you noticed having to pull the brake handle higher and with less resistance for a while before it snapped or did it snap out of the blue?

BTW I’m not a convertible guy but yours is very nice

My repair manual says that the parking brake should do 3-5 clicks. Any more than that and you need to adjust it.

I surprised it broke off like that. It almost looks as if someone cut it with a cable cutter. Are there any ex girlfriends mad at you? lol!

Nope, it just happened suddenly. One day it worked, next day it didn't.

Thanks for the kind words.

It does seem odd that this hefty cable broke so cleanly. There's no sign of corrosion or stretching, just a clean break, and there are no sharp edges in the vicinity.

What is the car's history?
