I forgot that I have a video of the sound from inside the car, but I'll have to post on our club site and then post a link I guess since I can't direct upload a video here. https://www.facebook.com/diane.stubb...06777089/?t=31 Had to use the wife's FB since I don't have an account

I'd have to get it back in the shop for that one..... I've never heard any noise while it's sitting still. While I have given it a few pretty good revs especially when I had the belt squeal...I haven't held it at 1500.
It's just really hard to nail down..... sometimes when it happens it would make you think its suspension and then other times it leans to something loose somewhere in the front half. Just can't seem to find it.

Don't know if this is related to the problem I'm having with the noise, but this morning a 'Service Tire Monitor System' message popped up and the TPMS light flashed a few times then stayed on. The tire pressure doesn't show on the dash for the rear driver side now, so I checked the tire pressure manually and it's fine. I think the TPMS sensor went out. When it rains, it pours.

The only other thing that seems to happen that points away from the suspension and more towards something loose is if I pull up on someone in a "draft" taking downforce off the nose.... it seems to make the noise happen more often or if I get a strong head wind or cross wind coming from the driver's side.... but it's not all the time and why doesn't it happen more when the car is cold or in cold temps??? I've grabbed at everything I can find in the front or under the hood I can reach and nothing seems loose and on everything I can see there doesn't appear to be wear marks on anything. The only thing I can't really test I guess is the shocks or struts themselves. … but there's nothing visible on them either and my tires are smooth no unusual wear I can take the car out for a spirited ride down the open highway and the only time you hear it is if you hit a decent buckle in the road and it's real brief like quick rattle like it's resetting to the road surface. heavy wind from higher speed doesn't make it happen in other words. It's just freakin' weird!!!

Finally found out what the actual problem was...turns out it wasn't anything to do with heat shields. A resonator somehow got cracked and was making the noise. My next question is if I need to buy a resonator with 3 inch inside diameters or 2.5. I have 3 inch muffler delete axle-back exhausts installed. I think the stock resonators are 2.5 inches but don't quote me on that...
Any help is appreciated. Thanks! |

I take it you have a manual as I believe the autos have a big long resonator where manuals have one on each side. It's 2.5" and if your just replacing it, you would get a 2.5" resonator, but it might be a good time to just put in a 3" cat back, or at least cat to axle.

I've got an automatic...I didn't know the manual and auto have different resonators. I can't find a stock resonator online to save my life. Would x-pipes replace the resonator (I don't know a lot about exhaust systems). I'm not trying to spend a lot right now but found this on Summit Racing:
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/j...ibanner=SREPD2 I'm just looking for the cheapest and easiest fix so the car doesn't sound like crap. |

Can you get the crack welded?

The shop I went to said they would recommend getting it replaced because the crack is about half an inch. I could ask around other places though.

As a temp fix, something could be welded over the hole/crack.
